GHB synth from GABA - anyone have experience?

I'm considering doing a GHB synthesis using this method: https://erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/gaba2ghb.html. Looks pretty simple, but I don't have any scientific equipment so I'm trying to figure out a nice homebrew method. Anyone tried this before? Any and all info would be appreciated!

Well- even though I've now got lots of lovely chem equipment, I started out, as most do, with nothing other than a strong urge to get cooking! Taking care not to incriminate myself- I'll just sat that I'm a pretty good cook- and I was one before I got all my posh kitchen appliances. So basically, over the years- I've spent a lot of time- thinking about how one could make ghetto/homebrew versions of lots of labware/chemistry equipment- and a great deal of it has actually been made and is tried and tested! (and is probably still plugging away in someone's cellar at this very moment!.. Maybe!?)

Oh! Just had a look at the rxn on the hive(Rhodium's) archive. I forgot about that fooker! I first read this a zillion years ago and wanted to try it, dunno why I never got round to it!? Everything sounds(!) pretty simple, no exotic chems OR apparatus(- that can't be ghetto rigged!) I'd gladly lend you some pretty reflux/distillation glassware if you weren't on the other side of the world.

From your post- I'm guessing that you're not super ready to be all systems go, just yet. Right? Well, reading the line-
"You can use ethyl acetate (EtOAc), chloroform or methylene chloride (dichloromethane aka DCM) to perform the solvent extractions."
made me wonder- have you thought about/looked into this yet? That's a problem in SOME places round the world! Not a problem in the US- and, I'm guessing that it's not in Canada either? I'm mostly just curious to find out your thoughts, if any, on which to use- and, the ease at which you can aquire DCM/ethyl acetate/chloroform wherever you are. (I fucking LOVE the smell of CHCl3)
