911 anon tips
« on: February 27, 2017, 04:08:07 PM »
http://www.npr.org/2014/04/22/305993180/court-gives-police-new-power-to-rely-on-anonymous-tips

This just blew me away as I was reading it. Anyone in the US should read it, basically says cops can now use anonymous 911 calls to initiate a traffic stop. This is so wrong at how abusable it is.

wow. just wow.

think about that.

every cop who wants to pull literally anyone over doesn't even have to lie anymore and say they were swerving, or crossed the center lane on a turn. They can just have a burner phone, and call in 911, and say "this guy is driving recklessly, he's going to kill someone. His license/make/model is blah.

then when the call comes over the radio he can light them up, legally.  what a joke.

ya know if coppers didn't fucking abuse EVERY GODDAMN THING I wouldn't feel so strongly bout reining them in. But what happens is they use shit like this to make small drug busts, lock up low level dealers, and impound and do a civil asset forfeiture. THAT IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM.

My favorite story about this kinda thing is the whole media uproar they made about gaining a way to decrypt an iphone, because of the san bernadino shooting. They get every retard with a voice to come out publicly and say "they REALLY need this ability" and then they drown us in stories on the media about how importnat it is, then they fucking use it to bust low level dealers and users so they can pad their own pockets.

sick shit, that is.

It heavily abuses what is considered a witness too. Saying that an anonymous tip through 911 is a credible  witness, yet part of the whole witness thing is being able to confront your accuser. Scalia is missed greatly.
