Government surveillance drone flying over Chicago
« on: July 13, 2016, 01:59:23 PM »
I took this video yesterday after I caught a sight of this drone flying over the near west side yesterday. It's totally fucked up bc I'm positive the government specifically said "we will not fly drones over US airspace"

Also, Chicago has a law specifically against flying personal drones in city limits, though it's quite clear this isn't a personal one, much too large. That thing was easily .3 mile or more away from me at the closest point so it's def not small.

Cool video man, and one hell of a vantage point. I like the commentary too--definitely abnormal, haha. But yea you can tell that thing ain't some little rinky-dink toy. Wacky shit man. Haven't seen any over Philly yet but it wouldn't surprise me if I do see one at some point.

They use choppers all the time here for traffic monitoring but I've never seen a drone. In theory they shouldn't even be allowed to as there is a law against drones in Chicago airspace. I'm actually reporting it to my local aclu to do a freedom of information request to see wtf it was doing. Tbh I've seen weird shit here lately. Last month I was on a ride thru the west side and saw a fucking mobile headquarters type swat van with no markings, it was just black with blue and red cop lights on top, and homeland security agents piling out of it they all had ar's and were heavily geared out. Then about a week later on another adventure to the west side I saw DEA agents getting out of a car, had their fbi vests on. Idk, it's almost like Chicago has joined up with the Feds to pursue drug enforcement. Actually now that I think about it I'm pretty sure they have, considering DEA agents showed up at my mothers house, idk how else that could've happened unless Chicago knew about it. Idk. All this shit pisses me off. People give up rights to stop "terrorists" (see: boogeyman in closet) and then the pigs use those things not to pursue terrorists but to lock up more drug dealers, and seize their assets and $$. The US government has become so obsessed with greed it will stop at nothing short of a fully monitored society.

I personally think the drone was doing more than traffic. Actually now was it there for traffic. I tried to call 311 (police non-emergency) and told them, they asked my name and location and I declined, just gave them a general area. Then when they realized I wasn't calling to report a personal drone they hung up on me. Literally, I called back and explained myself and someone else basically said "don't worry about that"

Fuckers

There is no doubt that the advent of religious terrorism has fucked us hard but I can't see any way around it.

Personal freedom levels have been reduced and we are seen as the bad guys too.

Everybody has a camera, GPS+wifi locates us rapidly, metadata is archived and will be mined, we can easily be eavesdropped on our Android devices and it keeps getting more technically sophisticated.

How I miss the days before the technical revolution but ludites we can no longer be.

Good catch, Dizzle. That's more than a little scary.

Yeah, eventually, hysteria about terrorism will be used as a pretext to fully lock down and disarm the American people. Perhaps they will let us have our drugs then, after we are reduced to an unarmed populace of sheep, where the ones who bleat the loudest are eliminated.

I say "eventually," but this is but one of a selection of possible futures for the USA. If we don't get some different leadership than the Hillary Clinton/Ted Cruz et al rabble in there, then we ARE going to see the US go "Full Tilt Boogie" police state in the next several years.

I liked your gf saying, "why," and you're all like "shut up, people are gonna hear you!"

She is Asian right? Sounds like it. And for the record I've never met her.

IDK why, but I feel compelled to put this in here because it's funny. Not directed at anything in this thread, so don't get that idea, please.

It's totally fucked up bc I'm positive the government specifically said "we will not fly drones over US airspace"

I'm not sure where you heard that man.  They've been using drones for a long time in US airspace.  Here is a link to an article talking about the first case specifically using one: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/01/28/first-american-gets-prison-with-assistance-predator-drone.html   I know that I've heard them mentioned quite a few times when I troll news articles.

I think that the authorities like them extra plus good because they don't require a warrant for surveillance.  Last I heard they were ruled to be operating in public space, and don't need a warrant.  Sort of like how they can observe you from a sidewalk for as long as they want.  I might be wrong here mind you.  I'm just going from memory.

They have been patrolling the areas around the US-Canada border for over a decade now as well.  I think that they run a fleet of 10 of them, and brag that two of them are in the air at all times at least.  Last I heard they were talking about using reapers with some fancy hellfire missles to wtfheadshot illegal immigrants.  It's okay, they don't have rights anyways.

I bet it's only going to get worse from here on out too.  1033 has been used to transfer military surplus to law enforcement for pretty much 25 years now.  What else will they do with the various drones operating all over the world as they scale back active roles in wars.  I think it's justified by keeping it in service somewhere.  In an emergency it could be brought back into service for less cost then refurbing some of these:

Personally I'm more scared about the prevalence of the miniaturized ones like these.  They're cheap enough to buy outright for these forces, and easy enough to use that my kid could operate them.

About 8 years ago they used a drone to pull me over on the way to a funeral, It was bs cause the guy next to me was going faster but they sadi they had some drone about a mile away clocking everyones speed and they gave me a ticket had me and my brothers in my car in suits on the way to my gpas funeral and made us late, cause they had to dick around for 10 minutes writing us a ticket, for 10 over. It some scary shit to think about what they are actually doing especially when it comes to monitoring the public.

It is getting worse by the day I swear, now the idiot gov. of nc has made it imposible for people to get there hands on police body cams, why even have it if they are just going to erase any thing they do that could hurt them. I guess they need it to insure they have more proof to justify murdering and robbing people in some situations

My guess is that there are some legal issues with allowing footage of an officer's body cam footage with a simple FOIA request.  As an example that comes to mind right away, what about people recorded being arrested who are later acquitted.  What if the footage leaks to press and paparazzi heroes?  What if someone requested a record of police footage to map out the times and routes where law enforcement patrol?

Those body cams are a joke anyways.  The big name is Taser, and their devices are selective recording devices.  It records on a 30 second buffer, and the officer has to decide it is significant to keep the buffer.  They hit a button and it saves the buffer and starts recording as well.  Otherwise it is just discarded.  If I were a cop being a dickhead I wouldn't push the button personally.  It's just security theater like airport screening.

With how cheap storage is nowadays they need a real solution.  A little 360 degree cellphone res camera that records a couple hours and then dumps it over the police data bands for example.  Anything less is just a joke to get people to shut up about it.  A multi million dollar money making joke that Taser is happy to tell as often as you want to hear it.

They might have meant one of the automatic speed traps.  We have those all over here, and you get your ticket in the mail.   They have some set up as unmarked vans that they like to park on the overpasses with the camera looking out one way glass on the side.
