PMP Interconnect links databases of a whole shitload of US states...

I'm on the NABP (National Assoc. of Boards of Pharmacy) mailing list and just got this little gem tonight:

The Maryland Prescription Drug Monitoring Program has deployed NABP PMP InterConnect®, bringing the total number of live participating state prescription monitoring programs (PMPs) to 30. Maryland joins PMPs in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, which have implemented use of PMP InterConnect, giving authorized PMP users the ability to request and share program data across state lines. NABP continues to work with other states to facilitate their participation. PMP InterConnect is a highly secure communications exchange platform that facilitates the transmission of PMP data across state lines to authorized requestors, while ensuring that each state’s data-access rules are enforced. Additional information about PMP InterConnect is available in the Programs section of the NABP website.

That's a whole bunch of states. Be careful out there opies. Oops, I mean druggies!

PS - interestingly enough, the District (DC) doesn't seem to be on that list. So if you're in in the DMV area, get your sketchy doctor-shopping ass over to DC to fill your scrips! Oh and North Carolina is conspicuously absent as well, so if somewhere you're down in Southern Virginny, make a run for the border and get 'em filled down there.

California isn't mentioned here either, so if you're in Nevada and can make the trip, then go over there to get those sketchy scrips filled. Neither are Georgia or Florida - also formerly known as Pill Mill Central. Or North Dakota (while SD is).

This is good solid information for people like us to have.

Wow & thanks for this. I've been curious since day one about these databases-just like the VA, Target etc etc, is there any way for the public to know if their info has been hacked?  I'd love to believe it wouldn't be, but since they're using this fear to hawk identity theft companies (Life Lock most recently), on TV, i don't feel very optimistic.

Too true.  And judging, reporting, playing God... What worries me is 'Big Brother' having access to my info-much like the NSA's not so secret now practices :/
