also, the 'insert youtube' button has been replaced by 'insert flash', I typed out the function manually and it didnt work, so Im assuming
youve made it easier by just using auto-embed with link?

yes. the youtube markup was only temporary and is now removed

the "automatic" method, though not perfect, is where we want to be. when you think about how facebook embeds almost anything, you'll appreciate that it's been continually becoming more capable.

i have been adding metadata tags to our pages to be facebook friendly but facebook's handling of URL's is very impressive.
