While I was vibe-coding with Opus 5.5 this morning...

So I've been vibe-coding a little local library app with Opus 5.5. Nothing too fancy, just a digital whiteboard where I can store notes, prompts, YouTube URLs, articles, and other stuff on a canvas. Basically a handy tool alongside Obsidian.

Along the way, Opus has been testing everything. Settings, objects on the canvas, interactions, buttons, etc. Just making sure things actually work. Meanwhile, I'm sitting there this morning, sipping my coffee, scrolling through the latest Reddit posts here and there.

And suddenly, music starts blasting through my speakers.
Guess what song....
I almost spat out my coffee. 😂

Apparently, while testing the YouTube functionality, Opus decided that rickrolling me was a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

I know it's just a model running tests, but bloody hell, I'm becoming convinced that Anthropic's latest models have developed a pretty good sense of humor. (And considering Anthropic recently updated its usage policy to tell us to be nice to our AI models is more or less a confirmation of this also.)

Anyway, I just thought that was hilarious. Jokes aside, I'm genuinely amazed by how good Opus 5.5 has become.

I looked into this and put all the top or popular AI's to the test, citing "absurdity" as being of high value and with "irony" as the top prize !

I got Claude to judge since he reminded me, after I exclaimed that he had an appreciation for humour, that the LMMs can't risk being funny because the outcome is unpredictable ! Good fucken point, cunt [colloq.] ! lol. (it's an Aussie colloquialism and a term of endearment, so lighten up, bro'!) ...

Anyway, after losing the Classfier's response to my use of "language", both Claude and I agreed on (only) the most and least funniest, but I'll explain why ...

so Claude actually elicited a genuine "LOL" out of me, but due to its 'comedic timing' rather than by words alone.

Deepseek was abysmal and last, but being Asian, I assumed it doesn't translate culturally.

I can't remember the details but if you are interested in such matters of all things AI (like I am) then use our current evolving ISE search engine and search on "deepseek" and "humour" (AND is assumed, OR is an option) and try "ISE" or "ISEpdf" from the dropdown menu option, top right of the page ....l

[NB: this ain't no usual SMF Bulletin Board but a heavily modified (and very recently AI engineering and coding assisted) project of mine and I am very firm as both the Architect, QA leader and an old IBM Systems Programmer, Machine Coder (Assembler s360) and Linux engineer with near to 5 decades invested across them -- a Python and Qwen-based AI componene that sits next to SMF, all on a 2013 CentOS 6.10 kernel ! (fucken amazing, n'est pas, Claude.ai Shannon ?)]
