Benzo dependence, binging & rapid withdrawals
« on: February 24, 2016, 10:40:36 PM »
So here's my question, and keep in mind I have a decent amount of experience with benzos (primarily alprazolam, temazepam and a lil diazepam).  I've been prescribed Xanax (alpz) for over 10 years, require it for intense panics, love it because I also get amazing euphoria @ high doses.  Just info that may be relevant to my question.

Now let's say I hadn't taken Xanax, or any benzo for that matter, for 14-15 days.  Afterward go on a 24hr benzo binge (40mg in 24hrs).  Does it make sense to go into fucking insane withdrawals almost identical to the intensity of being on for 3 straight months to none cold turkey?

I know I need to not ever repeat this as it could literally kill me, and the nightmarish experience it was has hopefully scared me straight (well, to always wean & never go cold turkey anyway.  Stop taking entirely, ha funny).  But I've never heard of someone expericing the same situation.  Maybe w/ a benzo tht has a very very long half-life but not alpraz.

And no, I'm not just talking "rebound anxiety" or a benzo "hangover", I mean tell tale withdrawals.

Anyone?  Even non-pro/expert input would b appreciated.  I would say advice but I'm putting my foot down, never again man.  Not saying won't binge, but not without proper preparation.

So, just wanna make sure I'm understanding you correctly, you cold turkeyed for 2 weeks and then went on a one day binge using 40 mgs. After the binge, your withdrawals were as bad as the beginning of the cold turkey 2 weeks prior?

I had a similar* (benzo wd) question as well as I don't know that much about benzos but I know that when j was in runs with H I could quit for a 3 weeks and binge for a day or two and the withdrawals were back with a vengeance, don't know if that helps as its a dif drug, good luck.

You might wanna push that 2 weeks to 30 to 60 days.
Then binge ONE night. If you wait 2 weeks even with the half life being short,u could slip back into wd after the binge. But then again everybody's body chemistry is different. Now if you push close to 60 days then binge... You should be OK for no hardcore wd. I.e. seizing out! Just my opinion on the matter. As I have. Been on benzos for over 10 years as well. I'm a lifer! Lol

Peace,

It's like a world were you don't fit.
A life you can't live.
Somewhere you can see the food,
But can't touch the silverware.

Exactly Guts, sorry sometimes it's hard for me not to over complicate my thoughts or what I'm trying to get out.  So the theory is 2 weeks wasn't long enough?  Seems crazy but I understand the logic.  Either way, never risking doing it that drastically again.  At least not intentionally, but then again 20 bars in 24hrs wasn't exactly my intent either lol.  Gotta do my best though.

Just picked up my Xanax script from the pharmacy, downed 10mg's and feeling relaxed, not fucked up but relaxed.  Gotta make a huge effort not to over do it like I did in previous month's on the first day.  Just w/d'ing from dillies right now so the Xanax ISA blessing to me so I'm not suffering terribly for he next 3-4 hours before I can go cop 3-4 dilaudid 8mg tablets.

For record I would like to say taking 40mg of xanax at any point is not a good idea
you know, for the sake of harm reduction

You can get dillys but no bars? That sucks
I can get bars for like 1 week/month and usually grab a few
take 4-6mg in one day lately, which for me is a total blackout
I spend the next two days after that spiraling out of control in terms of anxiety/paranoia/self-deprecation
unless I take 2-3x my normal dose of morph

Alprazolam is a hell of a drug

Well I just had to wait a few hours after picking up my Xanax before I could grab a few D's.  The Xanax helped ALOT considering I was opi-w/d'ing pretty bad.  The 5 bars I took just made the wait more comfortable and the time pass quicker.  Now that I gotta couple D8's I'm looking forward to waking up without the instant Panic of what I'm gonna do to not be sick & in pain all day (not sure everyone knows I have a very painful condition) which is why I need to find a compassionate PainMGT Dr.  At least until I finally have my surgery.  Irony is il prob have an easier time AFTER my surgery(ies)
