Fun Things YOU Do While Under The Influence (Get Your Geek On)
« on: September 20, 2015, 07:23:03 AM »
Top of the Evening to you DAU Members!

Just thought I'd get some idea of some of the fun shit you like to do when you're NOT doing drugs (or just after you get high).  In addition, you can also tell us WHY you like this activity so much.

I don't wan't people to be shy, if their favorite activities might be seen as geeky, or pathetic, or worse.  You might also get others involved in your fun as well.

For example, I like to get my buzz on, then fuck around for hours on end, with Kerbal Space Program.  You can make all sorts of flying machines, jet powered, rocket powered, etc...., and try to fly it.  Sometimes the explosive failures are great, other times, you can not only get shit into orbit, but even land on the Mun, or other planets.

You can find Youtube videos that will give you some idea about the program.  You can build craft as complicated or simple as you want.  It will cost about $40 to download it, some of you computer-literate folks can get it for free, probably.

So, that's how Morfy enjoys his high, how about you?

Start speedballing and play couch co-op with a friend. Maybe pop some Resident Evil in and fucking blank out for like 8 hours straight. Adderall plus opana plus video games plus a friend equals the best time ever.

1st class nod cig burn installer.
Skillfully burning holes into pants since 2010.

The worse time was in Wisconsin. Bonfire on my crotch. Was wearing long Johns, boxers, and 3 pairs of jeans (it was fucking 20 below zero and I'm from the deep south - it doesn't snow here...). Didn't wake up until it hit the boxers haha.

Looking up info on Wikipedia.  Whatever pops in my mind really.  Usually lots of history, culture, language, pharmacology related items.

Listening to music, although I don't do that much--if at all-- anymore.  I dunno why I stopped.

Getting on here / DAU is a hobby, although I probably spend too much time on here.

Looking up cooking and food related things.  Williams Sonoma's site is orgasmic to me.  I'd love some Mauviel M 250c, Demeyre Atlantis, Staub, and Scanpan CTX cookware.  Love their electrics and cooking utensils too.  Things like pastry tools, piping tips, different kinds of whisks, etc. interest me.  Yes, I'm odd.

Researching kitchen design.  Things like cabinetry, lighting and flooring choices, countertops, sink and faucet options, etc.  And I love to look at appliance manufacturers.  Did you know you could spend 100K on a fucking stove?  It's insane.  There's a French company called La Cornue that makes really expensive, handmade stoves.  I would never want one though, simply b/c they don't have see-in over doors.  All that money and you couldn't even see into the damned oven.  I like the much cheaper, although still really nice, Wolf-Subzeroi products.  They're amazing.  I do like some of the features of the Bluestar ranges, like the integrated wok cooking, and the higher BTUs, but I don't like how limited some of the models are regarding configuration.

All of that cooking stuff is just for fun / daydreaming  I'm not planning on redoing a kitchen.

I used to like playing computer games when I was younger.  Stuff like Privateer and Dune.  Mainly strategy games where you build defenses and conquer things.  And space flying games where you customize your ship, battle, trade, etc.  I never did get into video games.  I had the original Nintendo and a SegaCD, but never played them much.  I did like Sonic the Hedgehog though.  I liked making him spin.  I have no interest in getting an Xbox or Playstation or Wii.

I used to read books.  Physical books.  I've not done that in years though.  Originally I said it was b/c I got burned out from reading in college.  But that's an old excuse, and not really applicable now.  I guess reading online / wikipedia counts.

I used to love to draw and paint.  I always got art sets / kits when I was a kid.  Things like watercolors, acrylics, colored chalks, charcoal pencils, etc.  I always wanted oils, but those can be pricey.  I got sketch pads, an easel, and some blank canvases for Christmas one year.  I've not done any painting since I was 12 or 13 though.  And I've not drawn anything since I was in my early- to mid-20s.

Overall I count drug use as a hobby.  Yeah, it's a dependency and an addiction.  But nothing beats good, old-fashioned recreational drug use for putting you in a carefree mood, eliminating boredom, and simply making life fun.  I'm a huge proponent of better living through chemistry.

Good thing you DID wake up TheSWPK before any serious injury--hopefully.  Was any body part singed or damaged?  Kind of a sensitive area.

Narko:  I've been getting into cooking too, lately: trying to replicate Thai dishes (Mostly Massaman Curry Chicken).  Nice thing is, even if you cannot get it quite right, the result is still tasty.

** There are like 4 Thai restaurants within 10 miles of me here in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area, and EACH one spells Massaman differently, Mansuman, Masuman, Manford Man:  I think that's okay, since transliterating from Thai into English, each version might well reflect the owners' regional dialect?  Or, No one gives a shit, just let me eat it!

That's great that you're learning to cook.  I think more people should have a basic understanding of cooking.  It's really not that difficult if you pay attention and learn a few basic techniques.  There's a good tutorial on the six basic cooking techniques (slow cooking, baking, roasting, poaching, frying, and BBQ / grilling).  It's a 6-part series by the BBC showing Raymond Blanc showing you how to master these basic skills.  Each episode is around 30 minutes.  If you watch them, don't get put off on the type of food (haute cuisine).  The important thing is how he shows the fundamentals of each technique, and how each affects the food you're cooking.  I think he's actually got an entertaining style of presenting things.  Here's the link to the first show.  I don't see a readily available playlist.  But if you allow the player to run, it continues onto the next episode.  Or you can simply click on the next episode's link.

I feel the same way about Pad Thai.  For Asian cuisine in general though, I'm in love with Chinese.  Love me some spring rolls and dumplings.  I'd love to go to Shanghai and visit one of their dim sum restaurants.

I love to cook when I do it, but I hardly ever do.  It's more a motivation thing than an aversion to cooking.  Cooking takes time.  And while I like home-cooked food better, it's easier to put frozen, prepared food in the oven.  I usually buy a lot of frozen food and random pantry items.  Stuff like soy sauce, sesame seed oil, boxed couscous, rice, cooked pudding mixes (I don't like instant; it doesn't get as thick).  Hell, I even buy frozen rice in steamer bags.  It's just so easy to put it in the microwave for four minutes instead of cooking rice.
