tainted heroin in Louisiana

obtained and injected heroin, possibly simultaneously, shortly after midnight.
While not saying that the particular batch of heroin was laced with anything, Champagne did note that recently in Chicago, 74 people were reported to have overdosed on a batch of heroin that was laced with Fentanyl. Most of those users collapsed shortly after injecting the drug, according to Champagne.
"People often asked me if anything surprises me anymore," said Champagne in a statement. "I can say this is the first time I have ever seen a double death overdose situation such as what we discovered today. Autopsies are pending, but I felt compelled to put this warning out tonight since we are fairly confident of what happened."
Champagne said that heroin is often cut with various substances, in some cases, rat poison, to stretch the supply.
"How someone is so desperate for a fix as to inject poison into their veins is incomprehensible to most of us. But it happening with alarming frequency and people are dying from it all over this country," he said. "It is a travesty that our government can't do something to enforce and protect our southern border where illegal immigrants and cartel produced heroin is literally flooding across."
"If you know anyone addicted to this poison, you must plead with them to get help. You must warn them that a batch of poisonous heroin is on the streets. Hard core drug addicts are likely not following our Facebook posts. Please get the word to them. BEWARE and BE WARNED," he said.

LULING, La. - Two men in their mid-30s were found dead inside of a home in Luling in what the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office says is an apparent death related to heroin.

Sheriff Greg Champagne said the men who died were known drug abusers who had obtained and injected heroin, possibly simultaneously, shortly after midnight.
While not saying that the particular batch of heroin was laced with anything, Champagne did note that recently in Chicago, 74 people were reported to have overdosed on a batch of heroin that was laced with Fentanyl. Most of those users collapsed shortly after injecting the drug, according to Champagne.
