Gravitational wave lab LIGO roars back online to detect the oldest black hole collisions ever seen

Published May 26, 2023

"LIGO has been upgraded to observe gigantic black hole mergers 5 billion light-years away.

On May 24 2024, scientists at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) began an 18-month campaign to detect the most distant collisions between black holes and neutron stars ever observed."
