GABA type A (GABAA) receptor is a ligand-gated chloride channel which mediates fast inhibitory signals through rapid postsynaptic membrane hyperpolarization whereas the metabotropic GABAB receptor produces slow and prolonged inhibitory signals via G proteins and second messengers (GPCRs).

As far as drugs go, Diazepam and Alprazolam are examples of agonists that bind to GABA A and do so quickly whilst Gabapentinoids like Baclofen or Phenibut bind to GABA B and may take hours to kick in yet GHB is also an agonist there but kicks in must faster.

Effects of cytidine-5′-diphosphate choline on gray matter volumes in methamphetamine-dependent patients: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study

Background:

Cytidine-5′-diphosphate choline (CDP-choline) has been suggested to exert neuroprotective and neuroreparative effects and may be beneficial for patients with stimulant dependence. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in methamphetamine (MA) dependence investigated effects of CDP-choline on the brain structures and their associations with craving and MA use.

Hallucinogens/Psychedelics / 1D-LSD - a Hallucinogenic Prodrug

On the topic of prodrugs, now I find them everywhere ...

1D-LSD (1-(1,2-dimethylcyclobutane-1-carbonyl)-lysergic acid diethylamide) is a psychotropic substance and a research chemical that has potential psychedelic effects.

It is believed to be a prodrug for LSD and has replaced 1V-LSD in Germany after 1V-LSD became covered by the German NpSG law in 2022.

Personal reports, however, indicate some inferior differences between it and it's metabolite.
