Title: a Xanax User Asks "What's the Best Drug for Sleeping ?"
Post by: Chip on June 08, 2015, 09:30:19 PM
best drug that promotes sleep for a Xanax long-term user ?

... and YES, apparently he IS aware that abrupt cessation of his current benzodiazepine medication may just well kill him.

You could always just take more Xanax? Or possibly you can try a combination of different benzos for the synergistic effect.  You'd be sure to fall asleep given the right dose.  As with the cross-tolerance of alprazolam, other benzos might not be enough to put you to sleep.  That's why I suggested taking a combination of drugs.

You can go to your doctor and get a hypnotic drug.  Whether it be a Z-drug, such as Ambien (Zolpidem), or another benzodiazepine with primarily hypnotic properties...such as temazepam or midazolam.

You need to watch though that you don't get your body too accustomed to these drugs as you did with the Xanax.

You can also try some OTC products like melatonin or good ol' diphenhydramine.  There's many many other ones.  You can just ask your pharmacist what they recommend.  Just because they're not prescription doesn't mean they can't work.

Also, if you're trying to induce sleep after coming down from using speed or any other stimulant, well, good luck with that.  Depending how amped up you are, there really isn't much that will be able to break through that extreme central nervous system stimulation.  Some of the anti-psychotics are good at putting people down though if you can get your hands on them.

If all else fails, if you can get yourself some Milk of Amnesia, you're set!! Diprivan (propofol Worked for Michael Jackson  ;D

One of the many drugs I have been prescribed for sleep never did work that well until my doctor put me on Seroquel ( Quetiapine)
It is classified as a  Atypical Antipsychotic. It puts me to sleep in about 30 minutes.
Something to look into.
The only side effect I have is swelling.
Talk with your doctor about it.
Be careful when taking it with other drugs that cause drowsiness.
I am on Klonopin, 2mg, 4 times a day and I have not noticed anything unusual.

Something to consider.

If you're looking for a prescription sedative that is extremely sedating (IMO), I'd suggest Luminal / Phenobarbital.  It's abuseable, of course, but not really euphoric.  It's sort of like the methadone of barbiturates.

It may be hard to get a script for this, but it can be found via online pharmacies.  It's usually very cheap too.

If you go this route, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!  Know that phenobarbital has an incredibly long half-life, shouldn't be mixed with other CNS depressants (especially alcohol).  It could be very dangerous in OD situations.

But, if you're looking for a powerful sedative, phenobarbital fits the bill.  It's like being knocked out with a ton of bricks.  Just oppressive sedation.

For a sedative / hypnotic benzo, you could try: Restoril (temazepam), Rohypnol (flunitrazepam -- if you can find it), Versed / Dormicum (midazolam), or Halcion (triazolam).  Again, please don't combine these with other CNS depressants.

Some non-controlled options:

Anti-psychotics like Seroquel, Risperdal, Geodon, or even Haldol.

Anti-histamines like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Atarax / Vistaril (hydroxyzine).

Melatonin.

For whatever reason I have had a VERY hard time getting Dr's who would give me anything under the sun even to prescribe me Restoril (Temazepam) to sleep because it's a hypnotic benzo and very euphoric so i guess that is why they don't like to do it but that is what I use to sleep cause I have major problems. I take 4mg Klonopin during the day (just switched from 4mg Xanax) and due to no luck with Ambien and such ive been aloud by my new Dr to have 60mg of Temazepam at bedtime (thats almost equal to 2 xanax bars but far more sedating as it's a hypnotic) and that puts me to sleep every single time.

i use Methamphetamine for sleeping, indirectly. no shit.

once i have been up for a day or two, i sleep like a baby when i crash - and it's a routine that is well planned and i throw in some Olanzapine doubled up.

it's part of my routine and saves on other downers ... i know my reply is a little bit wacky but it works: Stay Up Mon and Tue night then crash heavily on Wed, Thu and by Friday, i'm close to normalised.

I'll second Seroque since Benzos are off the table.

Three others i'll suggest: 1)Trazodone, 2)Gabapentin (a lot dose (600mg is commonly used off label for sleep) and 3)Flexeril [Cyclobenzaprine] (It might be the worse skeletal muscle relaxor but it's darn good to help you for sleep,

100mg Seroquel put me to bed every fucking time, no questions asked. No matter what kind of coke I'd been smoking, nothing.

Somewhere between
GHB, and
DMT

nothing quite like a world shattering psychedelic journey that brings me the sleep of the gods, redefines "like a baby."

but GHB is damned reliable, it doesn't suck either..

I'd add Sonata to the list open the capsules in your most relaxing potent chamomile tea. It'll do the trick with no hangover, but it'll take at least 2 30mg caps.

Vaya con Dios,

Has anyone tried Belsomra / Suvorexant for sleep or for fun?

It's an orexin receptor antagonist that's supposed to induce sleep by inhibiting the chemicals in the brain that promote wastefulness.

I've been interested in this stuff since seeing the drug commercials a while ago. The commercials said its different than other prescription sleep meds.

Wikipedia said its got an abuse potential similar to Ambien. It's scheduled as a C-IV like other benzos and Z-drugs.

>snip<It's an orexin receptor antagonist that's supposed to induce sleep by inhibiting the chemicals in the brain that promote wastefulness.

I didn't know there was a specific neurotransmitter that did that. LOL.

Really though, I would like to try it out. Might be a strange type of high, or maybe just puts you to sleep. If it does get one buzzed, then this would be new territory insofar as drugs of abuse/recreational chemicals are concerned, because orexin antagonism has not heretofore been explored in that manner.

We need a laboratory monkey and I'll volunteer to be it/him, then I'll prepare a full report on it. You know, for science and shit.

Autocorrect mistake: it should have been "promotes wakefulness."

It's classified as a C-IV like benzos and Z-drugs. So it must have abuse potential, or they're concerned it might have abuse potential.

It could be the latter. Remember when Ambien was supposedly non addictive? Maybe this is a preemptive strike?

Still, I'd be curious to see how it feels.

trazadone and ambien never worked well for me.
like a few others here seroquel was the only one that really kept me asleep. it was also the only medicine that I felt I needed to cut back on my prescription and did.
once i was at around 400mg i was noticing some drowsiness for most of the day after awaking and staying asleep for very long periods of time. cutting back dosages mostly got rid of this side effect.
with all sleeping medicines tho if i don't fall asleep within the first 30mins-1.5hrs they tend to keep me awake. That's why cannabis, especially hash oil (was said before) is great for knocking me out quickly but without something backing it up after 1.5-2.5 hours i'll wake up at the most.
