Title: Dead Heads Unite! - any other Grateful Dead fans around?
Post by: mickeyaye6989 on October 23, 2016, 09:10:42 AM
Any other Grateful Dead fans out there? Currently making my way through the '76 Capitol Theatre vids. Then back to Dick's Picks 11 cuz my favorite era of the Dead has to be the early 70's bluegrass era. Gimme some Pigpen on the harmonica belting out Mr. Charlie with a little China Cat Sunflower into I Know You Rider and all is well with the world. What I would give to be able to experience a live show with Jerry at the helm...

Count me in. I was lucky, saw 101 dead/JGB shows from 87-92. What a blast! The music, the women, the LSD! It was awesome.. I got to see the USA also, been to 47 states.

Jealous beyond comprehension, man. Was only 4 when Jerry passed so I'm right there with Tainted in that I'm far too young to have been able to see them in true form, but the GD tribute shows I've been to were by far the most lively concerts I've attended. There's an excellent group here in Toronto that play every few months called The Mars Hotel, who have the full band effect going, with a Donna Jean Godcheaux doppleganger and a keyboardist who can wail just like Pigpen. Only complaint is the guitar solos get a tad bit repetitive, but I'd assume most do after 8 minutes unless you're pissing excellence like Garcia was. Just a taste of the true vibes has me aching to see what a true Dead concert was like. Watching the GD movie makes me yearn even more... maybe one of these days I'll pop it in whenever some psychedelics strike my fancy again (been years but I do feel a trip would be good for me in the near future). Truly the only band I can listen to for weeks on end and not get tired of - just too much variation and material!

I'm a music obsessive of all types, eras and genres, and the Dead are most definitely my favorite band of all time!

Welcome to the forum glad we got another dead head.
U ever go-to shows? I was supposed to go see Phil lesh and friends this week in NY but the tickets are crazy expensive ($120 for each of the 5 day run) so fuck that

well....uh here i am...followed them in 1995 all the way up the east coast...i am from pittsburgh and when i got there i was tapped in every way...they were looking for me to repo my car...my house was in foreclosure and people broke into it and took everything of value....

i left with a ounce of good coke and a half pound of weed...had about 3500 bux and once all that was gone my friend sent me some tabs in the mail...i sold beer and grilled cheeses to get gas and tickets ....

.the show went on to soldier field in chicago, then jerry went to rehab and died...i regret not going to chicago....but the pittsburgh show in 1995 was so awesome even tho jerrys performance was not that good..

.the first song was rain by the beatles....and they were like......raaaain...i dont mind....and as soon as he sang "i dont mind" it started pouring down rain!!! this was like the gods did this shit and it is one of my favorite during that tour....also met a hot lesbian chick and fucked her...she taught me how to eat pussy......real good!!

I'm a music fan, not a deadhead per se but saw a few shows in the early 90's.  had most all the commercial records before i sold 4k+ records for dope.  want to start replacing my records & had the thought after watching the netflix doc on bob wier that i should just buy all the dead records again first.  But honestly I should spend my money on the velvet underground first.

There's got to be some online resource to find & downlod dead shows, right?  fill me in please.

I kinda hate the dead but I really love most of their stuff <'75. my most listened shows are 8-27-72 and 6-10-73 which are probably pretty well known. I really like to listen in the peak of summer when its very hot and I walk around outdoors often or do farm work.
