Title: Looking for recommendation for medical tape
Post by: corlene on November 03, 2015, 11:40:41 PM
Hey all I need some help finding a new medical tape.

I currently use medipore 2 inch wide perforated  cloth tape for covering my anti bacterial stoma pad.

I'm looking for something similar but with the adhesive properties of tegaderm..

It doesn't have to be cloth it can be paper plastic I don't really care, it just needs to be 2 inch wide and breathable because I have to use it long term and tape if it not breathable will start breaking down ur skin. It must be extra sticky because I tend to sweat anytime I'm outside.

I know we have some medical professionals around these parts maybe they can help?

Thanks in advance everyone, I'm certain we can narrow this down but I can't seem to find anything myself.

MediPore might work...it's kind of a cloth tape and it's stretchy.  We use it a lot for retention dressings and post-op surgical site dressings.

I'm not sure if it's breathable though...maybe you could google it and contact the manufacturer to ask them??

EDIT: jeebus h christ I am an idiot...sorry about that.   I just reread your post.  Fml.

Ok let me think on it a bit.

Ok I just did a little research...Tegaderm IS breathable - allows moisture vapor to evaporate and is permeable to oxygen.

So you could use Tegaderm.  I love that stuff!!  And it comes in several sizes too.

Problem with tega deem is that it's a set size, my stoma pads are 4c4 exactly and then on top of that I put 2 more 4x4 gauze. In totoa, I use roughly 18 inches of medipore to keep it on but I have to constantly re tape it I have the largest size of tegaderm it's just not big enough to justify ten bux for 4 of em imho

I dont know if this is an option since its on your torso/abdomen (prob depends on the shape of your body), but when I had to wear bandages all day every day on my arms I found that self adhesive wrap stuff (similar to vet-wrap) worked best of all for no skin damage, stays in place, and easy on-easy off properties.  I tried a number of cloth and breathable bandages and this was by far the best, even though I went through a lot of it and had to buy it in bulk since I had to do at least 2 bandage changes a day.  It also worked well on my ex when he had MRSA wounds on his lower legs which took 2 years to heal fully.

Of course it would mean you'd have it wrapped a few times around your whole abdomen, so I dont know if thats feasible for the site of your stoma.  And you'd need it to be the THICK kind like this, which you may have to order online or go to a medical supply store to get if they dont have it at your local drugstore:  http://www.bettymills.com/shop/product/view/McKesson/MON16432000.html?utm_source=cpc-strat&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=parts&utm_keyword=MON16432000&utm_content=Medical&gclid=CPDYze_U88gCFZRefgodqg8JbQ

I was thinking about those aswell. Trying to avoid that if I cant find this tape I wsnt that probably isn't even manufactured.

And also my abdomen becomes extremely  distended and bloated and goes back to normal all thru out the day. I'm talking going from a flat stomach to looking like ur 9 months pregnant

Lol

If the only thing holding you back from the Tegaderm is price, they have the 4x 4 3/4 size, 50 count box for 25.00 with free shipping on ebay.   They have tons of other sizes and the prices are great!  Even if you have to use more than one at a time, maybe it would be more affordable this way.  I personally LOVE Tegaderm...sticks like glue!!!

WAIT>>>I found this on ebay!

3M Tegaderm Roll Transparent Film Dressings 2" x 11yds (Each) # 16002

I'm not sure. I mean I have more than a half dozen rolls, and there isn't just one kind of medical tape, but I usually just steal a roll from a Dr's office!

Note: I just took a look at my favorite and the 3M Durapore seems to be the best for me and i've used and tried a lot of different kinds taking tare of this abscess!

The roll will work perfectly. The pre cut ones aren't big enuf, awesome. Just what I needed. Thanx alot!!

Price isn't an issue, my insurance reimburses me. It should be given to me by the home health agency i use but they just use medipore by 3M.

I use Tegaderm-the 4" too. They are oxygen permeable & supposedly waterproof (not always IME), but i just thought of something--my surgeon uses a brand like tegaderm, but its a bit bigger... I think its 5" x 6". Can you check online medical supply sites or call a local mom & pop pharmacy to see what they can order?  Tegaderm is hard on my skin, but I know there are prep pads you can get to help these products stick + help with that. I pay about $14 at a local pharmacy vs almost $17 for 4 of the big Tegaderms.

I'm gonna call my specialty pharmacy that fills my formula and iv meds. They also supply all my tubing for the feeding pump aswell as my iv tubing that goes into my port. I'm sure they can order the rolls of tegaderm.

I'll take a look around a couple med supply websites but they don't tell you his well it sticks to your skin, I figured some of the members here would have a better idea.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Well he stuck around when my forearms were all fucked up and I was still shooting coke into them multiple times a day, with no judgement no pressure.  I'm sure he was terrified I was going to fucking kill myself or make myself an amputee (definitely one of the worst times in my life although I was too dissociated to really care much) but he put on a brave face.  We definitely outgrew each other after 13 years as partners, but we were great for each other in some ways and this kind of unconditional love and support thing was one of them.

god damnnnnn I remember those awful times

ugh by multiple times you mean like 40x a day right?  That was at least me.  My shit looked FUCKED for a bit afterwards.  How do you outgrow someone when you have unconditional love and support down?  This is a rhetorical question I'm not meaning to corner you on a hijacked thread...I hope such things do not happen to me and my boo.  We have pretty much become the same person nowadays
