Title: Pregabalin for the reduction of opiate withdrawal symptoms

EDIT: again, for those who wish to take an opioid/opiate "holiday" for whatever reason - as long as they understand that this drug will kick back just as hard if you let it.

Abstract

Pregabalin is a substance which modulates monoamine release in "hyper-excited" neurons. It binds potently to the α2-δ subunit of calcium channels. Pilotstudies on alcohol- and benzodiazepine dependent patients reported a reduction of withdrawal symptoms through Pregabalin. To our knowledge, no studies have been conducted so far assessing this effect in opiate dependent patients. We report the case of a 43-year-old patient with Pregabalin intake during opiate withdrawal. Multiple inpatient and outpatient detoxifications from maintenance replacement therapy with Buprenorphine in order to reach complete abstinence did not show success because of extended withdrawal symptoms and repeated drug intake. Finally he disrupted his heroin intake with a simultaneously self administration of 300  mg Pregabalin per day and was able to control the withdrawal symptoms. In this time we did control the Pregabalin level in serum and urine in our outpatient clinic. In the course the patient reported that he could treat further relapse with opiate or opioids with Pregabalin successfully. This case shows first details for Pregabalin to relief withdrawal symptoms in opiate withdrawal.

i swear that i enjoy the rare "overdose" of Pregablin over the effects of opiates BUT that could just be me having myself on ... either way, it's a bit scary ...

@chipper I completly agree. I never thought id find a drug i liked more than an opiate. Then insert gabapentin into my life, and it changed forever. Its such a unique drug. None addictive, and none narcotic, HAHAHAAHAHA, right, Dr.Friend-O....I fiend for that drug worse than anything else. I wonder what these doctors do after a long day of drug dealing....I picture something like, Doctor:"Hey Mr.johnson, im going to prescribe you some oxycontin for your sprained big toe, take two a day for the next 2 weeks and ull stop the pain treatment after that time. Then use ibuprofin if needed after that. Mr.johnson: "THanks doc!" Doctor: MWUHAHAHAHA, He'll never be able to stop!!", as he turns on some heavy metal to drive home too.

that's very supportive of you, @Mr.pooper

I unhooked myself and didn't need my pain killers for 3 days as I used very high doses of Pregablin, instead.

I took my final opiate dose of 600 mg Tramadol and 5 mg Oxycodone as my back was hurting and for recreational purposes.

I won't have any more for quite a while.

take enough Pregablin on stimulants and you'll get a short but deep sleep.

so I used my monthly script in 3 days but that's cool as I need to reset my GABA regulatory system and that will take time - the longer between large doses, the better.

Be careful with that much fucking transfix bro. That shit will have you seizing out like a fish on dry land. I’m sure you prolly know that but it never hurts to get reminded. Good job on not having back on the opiate train man. Just remember the hell it causes and don’t look back with rose colored glasses. I know it’s hard not to but..

Thoms, I had forgotten about the risk of seizing!

repped for the reminder !

I was so concerned about avoiding an Opiate hook, I'd overlooked that entirely.

I'm glad you posted that.

EDIT: in retrospect, i should have used much less Pregablin AND over a period of 7 days INSTEAD ... the W/D's from the opis were far worse than i anticipated ... but Pregablin scares me as tolerance develops so quickly, i can see the addiction cost sneaking up rapidly.

I have got personal knowledge of how well Pregabalin works in this situation or even just for a brake from opium addiction but it does need some research on this doing as it’s easy to get yourself addicted to the Pregablin as well and the withdrawal from the Pregablin is as extreme as withdrawal from opioid’s if not worse so as with everything please take care and keep everything down to the minimum amount 😜 keep safe 😷😷

along side of pregabalin (https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a605045.html) another medication that is widely prescribed for opioid withdrawal symptoms is gabapentin (https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a694007.html) and occasionally they will also include clonidine (https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a682243.html) which is a beta-blocker and helps to keep your heart rate down, along with the gabapentin which is used to ease the symptoms by depressing your CNS (central nervous system.) I personally have been on that exact regime (gabapentin + clonidine) for opioid withdrawals and so have numerous other individuals that I know.
