Title: The Demonisation of Methamphetamine - throw us your two cents worth

The Demonisation of Methamphetamine - throw us your two cents worth.

The war on drugs new battlefront is the war on Ice.

Focused mainly in regional (country) areas in Australia, we are being told about this supposed scourge of ice (methamphetamine) that is ravaging our quaint and innocent country towns and cities.

The government, once again, in a perpetual deja-vu, is taking on this battle in hope to wins the support of the general public.

It is in my opinion that these wars do nothing to curb drug use but simply ostracise the users and further disable them socially, relabelling them as criminals.

This subject always bring me to two questions:
 1. if drugs were legal then would the phenomenon of addiction be as severe or even be eradicated for the question leads: how much do our perceptions, laws and history affect the concept of addiction ?
 2. if Ice is truly the demon that the media promotes it as, would the government not be better suited to a DEA-type assault similar to what they did for Quaaludes ?

a DEA assault would be the worst idea, IMHO.

pushing it underground always drives the problems deeper.

educate and containment would be the best immediate idea.
