I just heard that Actor Alan Rickman died today.
I think I like him best in comedies, where he played a great Straightman, off of which the comedic actors would bounce material off of.
What was your favorite role of his?
I think I liked him best in GALAXY QUEST where he played an actor, PLAYING the role of an emotionless alien (modeled after Leonard Nimoy's SPOCK). He played a great Straightman to Tim Allen's egotistical, washed-up actor, playing an arrogant space ship captain (modeled after William Shatner's Captain Kirk).
Then again, his role as a super-villain Hans Gruber in the original DIE HARD was great as well.
RIP: your work will be remembered!

Dammit man, they are dropping like flies yeah?
I'm torn between my favorite roles that he portayed. Hans Gruber OR the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves...one of the more redeeming qualities of that movie.
"Clay....Bill Clay" -Hans Gruber

I remember him in two roles off the top of my head,
He was the king or whatever in the movie "Perfume: Story of a Murderer" and then he was the voice of the caterpiller in alice in wonderland, and both were very "Alan Rickman" roles, I think it has been an iconic star, he fits the roles he played SO well, but when I look at him I'd think he'd be typecast as like a Judge or some high ranking elite, but he did so so so many other things so very well he was never limited to just the "easy roles"
RIP Alan Rickman. I was always a big fan.

Maaaan :( this sucks! Just watched Galaxy Quest again recently (daughter bought on DVD b/c "Prof Snape" from Harry Potter was in it lol) & tho he was great in many movies, I agree with Morphy--he was just such a good straight man! Dunno where he came up with "the laugh", but it was hilarious. RIP to a great actor.

I wasn't sure who he was so I had to google to see:

Hopefully that helps someone else. I remember seeing him in a few roles, and he was always good. RIP!

So many Great One's, too- and performer Natalie Cole on New Years Eve- I don't know if this was previously mentioned, apologize if it was. She was a long time heroin addict, but beat it and was clean 30years-due to hep C underwent kidney transplant in 2009, and developed pulmonary arterial hypertension, a rare n life threatening condition which lead to her heart to fail. Such a stunningly beautiful and talented woman! I loved the way "Unforgettable" was done with her late father- Nat, and loved "I've got love on my mind", "This will be" great songs, unforgettable performer! :-*
