Title: Quitting the tobacco smokes
Post by: George on October 10, 2016, 09:21:17 PM
Sorry if this reads wrong to you as I'm extremely intoxicated on some substance.

I've gone 5 days without smoking a cigarette, after smoking around 20 cigs a day for the last 10 years or more.

Then I fucked it up, and am continuting to fuck it up by smoking.

Here's the log of the 5 days of quitting:

DAY 1: (0) nicotine
DAY 2: (0) nicotine
DAY 3: 9 PM (4mg nicotine gum)
DAY 4: 4 PM (4mg nicotine gum), 9 PM (4mg nicotine gum)
DAY 5: 11AM, 5 PM, 9 PM (4mg nicotine gum), lost track after that, on account of GABAergic drug
CIGARETTES GALORE

Any replies, welcomed of course... this thread has no root.
How does it go?

 :) >:( 8) :-[ :)) ;D

Right on, chipper.

It tastes like shit when you're not accustomed to it.

It's so hard to shake, though.

Read through medical literature while trying to kick it. Apparently at low doses nicotine is a stimulant and at higher doses it acts on the opioid receptors: I can attest to that.

Taking that first dose of nicotine after a drought felt like chasing the dragon (never shot) or an oxycodone pill... or a shot of liquor or a smoke of methamphetamine, whatever is your thing, i know it's a strong feeling.

I'm going to advocate nicotine gum at this point, though.
The cigarettes have the "body load".

Piece of shit cigarettes. Fuck em.  8)
I'll smoke one now though, not too cool for that  8)

... and, get this, in Australia the cheapest packet of 26 costs me $AUD 22 at the local discount smoke shop !

that's far more than i can afford anyway.

IF you fail, click on this great news ! (http://forum.drugs-and-users.org/index.php/topic,3253)

Is vaping still big in the states?  I know that here the laws have changed a bit, and it is a lot less common then it was a year ago.

is 26 cigs a typo chipper?  A pack is 25 here.   $22 is insane.  Totally absolutely fucking insane.  I pay $ 20 for 200 at the native american reserves here, but a normal pack of 25  is like $8 or something.

no, actually 26 is the right count. a packet of premium 25's are well over $30.

and many public places are smoke free.

many good reasons to give them away ... vaping just didn't do it for me. when I run out of money to buy smokes, I never have an issue with withdrawals anyway.

I have heard that low dose Ibogaine is good for stopping smoking, too.

Going on ten years with out smoking cigarettes or using tobacco products. I used the patch the final time. It took the choice out of it for me so I didn't have to choose between gum and a cig. I used positive affirmation. Shit like "so glad I don't have to suck on that tobacco dick". Mean shit like that. It takes a couple of weeks to start coughing up all of the shit in your lungs. Hell I coughed up something 3 weeks after quitting that had me make a dr. Appointment.

I lost pretty much all craving about six weeks clean. I had to make it a habit of not smoking and actually got motivated and would take a walk or hop on something to exersize with. I use a gazelle glider because my back is all fucked up. What ever it is you do, just do it when ever you want to smoke. After some time you'll do that instead of smoking. Trust me, the shitty cravings go away with time.

It took me a number of tries to get it right but I realized it gets easier as you go. Make short goals like 3 days or a week. What ever you can do to take trick your mind. What ever makes it easier on you. There were a few times where I got a bit of time under my belt but ended up smoking like a dumb fuck. I mean, I got passed the hard part and fucked it away. So glad I was able to quit for good finally. I feel so damn much better now that I don't smoke.

If I don't drink I can switch to my vape painlessly & stay on that indefinitely, breathing free & easy.  As soon as I get one beer in me i crave a cig.  Next morning the vape is still all i need.  If you're not a drinker I'd suggest trying a vape set-up.  Gotta think it'd be easier than going nic-free CT. (you can taper if necessary by lowering the nictine level of the juice you buy).

I have a vape and I've been half-assed trying to switch over to just vaping. But, if I'm going to be totally honest, it's more like my vape is what I use inside & in my car, but I still like to sit on my porch & smoke cigarettes. Maybe as the weather gets colder it'll be easier to just use the vape.

I failed so am limiting them to 5-6 a day.

smoking related illnesses really worry me but damn, I do enjoy the odd smoke. it's like an other drug that one craves ... like having an itch then getting to scratch it.

Nicotine by way of smoking is the hardest drug to give up, then comes Meth injected, followed by same smoked, followed by Cocaine, followed by opiates etc. or so it said when I came across a matrix of drug vs. addictiveness. LSD was down the bottom and i say that it is anti-addictive because the more you take, the less you want to ... nobody feels like they must have a trip ASAP ! (man! :))

Hahaha, you're right on, especially about LSD.

2 weeks or so after having a good quit, I'm almost back to my old ways, but I have cut down (it sure was nice getting oxygen and being able to smell).

At least I learn something new every time I attempt to quit, and each time I make it further.  :)

oh and PS: the cigarette smoke in my avatar is blood
