Title: Kindling is bullshit
Post by: Ravenous on June 02, 2016, 03:18:59 PM
So I'm on my fourth day of cold turkey WDs from morphine (prescribed; I stopped taking it by choice). Those of you that know my past know I have withdrawn from methadone, heroin, Oxys, and dilaudid. This withdraw and my last one were easy as hell. Both times I utilized comfort meds but I have done that in the past.

The kindling theory is not holding up for me personally (I realize everyone is different). If anything, my WDs have gotten easier. Don't get me wrong, WDs always suck but it wasn't bad at all. I just want to reassure anyone who is scared to quit because of the fear that the WDs get worse each time. That hasn't been my experience. Oh, and morphine seems much easier for me to WD from than oxy strangely.

Perhaps not for opiates/opioids, but for GABA-ergic drugs like alcohol and benzos, it is definitely a real thing.

That habit sure comes back quickly if you've had one before though, don't it?

And most people end up with a bigger habit the second go around...

Yes, it does come back quicker, lol.
I've used a lot of benzodiazepines but I've never actually been physically dependent on them or any other type of drug like that so I wouldn't know there.

How have you been Zoops?

I think that as time goes on, you know what to expect
its like my body has gone through withdrawal enough to know what happens when
of course my habit is small, but I have been using for many years

its a lot easier for me to go through withdrawal as time has gone on
but i also use in a much more conscious way than i used to

It seems to be generally true for me, but I definitely get the odd exception from time to time.  As a general rule though, they kind of do seem to get worse each time for me.  The drug used and amount of it in my last use seems to greatly affect my wd experience.  If I end on doing like 30 or 40 mgs of opana in a day the wd is gonna be much worse than if I end on just doing 8mgs of dilaudid in a day.  My habits don't usually get all that big due to lack of funds.

Opiate withdrawal is generally dose dependent being that it has the 'classic' course of tolerance and withdrawal. Personally ive found it 'easier' as time goes on because i know what to expect. But at the same time 'harder' because i may not be ready and am afraid of what i expect.

Kindling as ive understood it is specifically related to benzos, which are already dangerous to withdraw from so im sure precautions ought to be taken.

When i first read about that, basically what it told me is to be absolutely sure when i want to use, develop a habit, or quit. Because it all wears on us over time

Diacetylkineval, I agree with everything you said. The knowing what's coming is generally a good thing I think unless you KNOW you're in for a particularly bad one. Just to clarify what I meant was, for me, regardless of the size of my habit the amount that I use on my last day before stopping and the actual drug I used last seems to pretty strongly affect my wd experience . Not so much the length of it but the maximum intensity of it. That's not to say that if I have a huge habit and I just use one d on my last day that the wd is gonna be equivalent to a one d a day habit, just that if I use less as opposed to more on my last day of using the maximum severity of my wd tends to be noticeably lower. Also if I use dilly instead of opana my wd is DEFINITELY less bad haha opana wd is horrible for me. I know everyone is different this has just been my experience. I have a friend who I feel bad for because he seems to always have worse wd than me from a similar sized habit and the same drugs(we have the same connect).  I also notice that habits come back faster after periods of abstinence than they used to, but almost everybody seems to say that.

ill tell you what gets harder, is the staying off. I made it 3 weeks. I took a drink. The owner of my company invites me over every so often and enjoys a couple beers, and a couple glasses of wine. Nothing like i drink, but i did fine with a low tolerance, and didnt want to disappoint.

That was last monday. Tonight my nerves were wrecked and my mind absolutely obsessed with alcohol, a drug i dont even like anymore. I hid two little cardboard boxes of wine in my cargo shorts, from my roommate who doesnt care if i drink, and has drank with me, although only on weekends.

Wtf kind of behavior is that. I smoked the last morsel of weed i had, still had to start drinking. I took the first drink i didnt want to take after 2 days
