Title: Had a Dr. appt. today...on my couch!
Post by: BamaPainGurl on October 31, 2015, 09:42:22 PM
I was pretty sure I was having another bout with my C.O.P.D./emphysema (technically chronic bronchitis as a symptom of the former) and I needed an inhaler. And like most all CPP'ers, going to any doctor other than your pain Dr is like getting rid of the body... You don't want to do the work but if you don't you're gonna be in big trouble before you know it!

So as I was looking up an urgent care to try and get in and out, I saw an advertisement for a free visit (code SEE4FREE) with an online Dr on the Amwell app. I figured I had nothing to lose so I gave it a shot. It went smooth and easy. Even without the free code a visit is only $49.

I figured once I finished the 10 minute visit and he electronically sent the script to my pharmacy that I would share my experience here. He gave me 5 refills too, so that was awesome! I can think of dozens of scenarios where this would be great for folks in pm and users as well! Anyone else use one of these? I will do it again for basic health care stuff, and they take insurance as far as I can tell. Just not mine, lol. Leave it to the federal government to be behind the curve!

But, I hope this helps someone possibly get the care they were otherwise avoiding. Very easy and on your terms. No narcotics but this is basic stuff.

Just my junkie intuition but I doubt those guys working for the service would prescribe controlled meds? Edit: just read the last line sorry.

I don't need anymore doctors in my life, but a MD or DO came to your house?
My primary doc must see 20 patients an hour an she bills and  118 dollars to my insurance every visit. Most of those visits are just for refills tho. My case is a lil more complicated than someone who needs simple bp/cholesterol meds tho.

Gotta be hard on the doctors wallet. Driving, examing, talking etc for 49 dollars? Fuck that noise, even when I was working I would never even walk into work for less than 75 an hour. I have a simple engineering degree from nyu.

I have more then a handful of close friends who I grew up with who are physicians, and believe me when I say this, if they didn't gross at least 350k a year it wouldn't be worth their time, or investment in education.

Hell, I have two friends who are dentists and they make more then a few of my doctor buddies.

Please don't mind the spelling, I'm out with the family watching them eat.

That's awesome
Don't know if I would be comfortable with a doctor
In my house (that's what I am watching now) but
Would try
I don't go to the doctor
Unless I am getting a script
Of something good out of it

I am getting to the she
Where I need regular cheek ups

Okay, I wasn't clear enough. I apologize for my failure to communicate. It was on my tablet. So no doc in my house, just using the app I referred to, on my tablet and video conference it. Again, sorry guys!

Makes a little more sense now. During the downtime they can do alot of shit to generate money.

Reviewing appeals for insurance related stuff is very lucrative is what popped into my head first. I saw a thing on 60 minutes or something similar where they make 100 dollars for every review they sign their name to.

If I recall correctly they deny almost all of those appeals too.

I agree they will deny almost all of them claims they "supposedly" put their greedy names too. Yeah sounds legit to only the far right idiots .

I guess being this is my thread I can derail it as well as anyone. I actually posted this hoping it would help some of the people here that typically don't seek medical care due to all of the issues of CPP and/or using.

Somehow by the 5th post it turned into a negative political statement about everyone with a certain set of ideals. So let me rectify part of this, this particular Dr does this in between pts at his brick and mortar practice.

I am beginning to feel like my particular set of values, ideals and belief system is unwelcome and the only way I can participate without negative reactions is to leave my mores at the door.

I apologise if this comes off as sarcastic, I don't mean it to be, but what did you do? Google "Internet Dr.'d in your area". I know you saw this add but where did you see this add? I'm genuinely curious.

I didn't mean infer but the larger companies that do this that's basically what the doctors do, like the ones who service in large cities.

I'ts a great idea, and I'm also a cpp patient that has to travel with pumps.

I support it for common everyday problems as it saves you time, etc. I wish my doctors office would do it since a physicians assistant van write scripts.

I didn't mean to come out to be harsh or brazen.

I'm terminally ill. The pumps keep me alive.

I appologize.

Im glad this worked out so well for you. I didn't realize this was still around after all the issues with online doctor shopping and the influx of Urgent Care businesses etc. As a nurse, my *only* concern with this is that assessing a patient in person gives info that you just can't get via video. *But* for established problems like why you used it, it's very appealing vs going out while sick/in pain, sitting in a waiting room & all that fun stuff!

Did the doctor give instructions on follow-up--say the inhaler didn't help etc?  Or, say they diagnose someone w/a UTI (which could actually turn out to be something else), do they do a disclaimer like "be sure to follow up w/your doctor or go to ER/ Urgent Care if the problem persists/worsens?  If so, I think this is a great service, especially for the reasons you listed & I'd use it!

Most of them will only treat benign condition, colds, gerd, asthma acne etc

Some walgreens do telemedicine where they can't fit one of their minute clinics in em but ya still have to goto the walgreens

I didn't see what you were talking about, really, except the comment about "far right assholes." But really, this is not the place you want to come to talk politics. I pretty much disagree with any of the far left "pinko commie lib" type rhetoric (everyone should be poor and not have to work) that people will talk about on here too. O.K. nobody ever said they wanted everyone to be poor and not have to work, but that's what I hear when people are blabbing on and on about how great Marx, Lenin and Engels are and shit.

Yes, leave your political views at the door, BPG. Just talk about the DRUUUGZ!

That one flew way over my head
And it did it so quick
My hair is messed up.

I didn't post anything but that I liked the idea and it must be catching on.
If I offended and wrote vote Hitler
I don't see it.

For that matter any of my responses to you.
I have talked politics
With Zoops, but that was on the phone.

Did a mod delete some posts.
Fwiw, I don't want you to leave.
Please quote offending posts.

This is a harm reduction board
So political views
Are close to being worthless

Okay, so I've missed a few responses. Hero, Corlene it wasn't either of you. Sorry I again should have been clearer. If it's any excuse, I think I have an abscess in my sinus behind my eye from misusing my instants. Which is causing a constant pressure/pain in my face and left ear.

A comment was made about "far right idiots". I was really curious how the Uber tolerant liberals explain their virulent hatred for anyone with any conservative leanings. It has been a pretty constant theme in posts where I've seen any reference to people's political or religious views that I am on the wrong side of these issues for a great number of people here. I Def don't want to discuss my politics or my religion without being invited, I've just had numerous occasions here to see a certain demographic singled out for intense criticism.

Anyways, my second post in the thread was just to explain what the doctor did when he wasn't online. And to say my peace about how it felt to see the group of people I relate to most politically and philosophically constantly referred to as idiots and retards. Perhaps that explains it better.

And Jega, I had searched for my condition, chronic bronchitis, and there was a Google targeted ad in the page with the free code for the visit. I am tickled to see this post served it's original purpose in making folks aware of the alternative for their basic Healthcare. That was my goal.

And, you're absolutely correct, that is what the Bible says! Is it so hard to believe someone actually lives out the Word? Without judging or hating? Well, I try my best to. I'm still a screw up and boy do I get things wrong sometimes, but God gave us free will, ALL of us.

I just don't want to be lumped in with this group, or those guys, just because I believe or feel the same as them. It is apparent that even so "so called Christians" have given those in the Faith a bad name, or a stereotypical ideal of what Christianity is. Probably some parts of both.

I would like to leave it with this, no matter how you feel about what I believe, or how much what you believe goes against what I personally believe, I will respect you and treat you with all the dignity you deserve. All I ask in return is the same. Fair enough?

DoD ,
I completely misread that then. The Internet is so impossible to read nuances and direction or non specific comments. I apologize for my mistake. I also agree, everyone to their own.

rcrumb - I can't speak for Jega, but my appt was for a boring old inhaler lol.
