Title: Reputation Power "scoring"?
Post by: DreamerOnTheRun on March 01, 2016, 02:59:20 PM
Not really important, just curious what dictates everyone's reputation power?  I can see it's clearly not soley based on # of posts.  Couldn't quite figure it out, fill me in buddies?

It's based on how many people have given you reputation. Giving someone positive reputation adds to and negative subtracts. On each post, there's a little heart next to each posters name and you click that to give reputation to that member. It's basically a way for you to agree or disagree with their post.

However, negative reputation seems to be used only when you REALLY feel strongly about something. Positive reputation is usually given more freely.

You can check your reputation by going to your profile. To access it, click the main profile link. After you enter your profile, click profile info. On the drop down menu there will be a link called reputation.

1 power unit is added every 25 points.

1 bar added every 333 points.

the reputation system will be recalibrated later but nobody loses points.

How many points do you get per rep? Does it depends on how many points the person who gives the rep has?

That's the idea as the rep power of the giver determines the points you get.

likewise, as your rep power grows, the number of points a worthy post gets is higher ... that's why I recalibrate it from time to time, as it can have a form of exponential growth at some point.

Dreamer and Guts just got 3 points each! Wow! Incredible! Amazing! Astounding! Awesome! Fantastic! Fabulous! Stupendous!

When I rep someone they get 3 points. Is that the max someone can give with one rep? Because I've gotten rep from you before too Chipper, who have way more than me or anyone else on this site and I got 3 points from that too.

Zoops, your rep. score is good so you are getting your right quota.

Rep Power is all about the points you give out.

I'm sure that the points you give out are ok too.

The rep typing is kind of funny, it cancels you out after maybe 20 or 30 seconds -- though I now see it does save what you wrote so far, so it's workable.

BTW Zoops, I tried to write you a greeting, but all you ended up with was my silent agreement with one of your posts.  Hey maybe that's better anyways, who knows?

the Rep Box will disappear if you move the cursor outside the box ... you'll see what I mean.

just click on it again

You can see the top rep by clicking on stats.  I don't know if members can see it, so if not here's the top ten from there:

Now when people don't have rep, I'm assuming they took it off themselves, but let's say I like a post of theirs and send them a rep anyway...can they still see it? Or is that pointless.

We sure can Illadelph.  I rep people, and I read rep. I just don't like people judging other people's value by a silly number beside their name.  There are certain people on certain sites that rep each other in a big circle to build up their rep worth.  It doesn't mean anything except that a certain group of people agree with their posts.  I would rather be judged on the quality of my posts, and not play the rep game.

yes, they can still see whatever rep you give them and their count goes up. I still rep people even though they choose not to display theirs.
