Help needed..ER,sickleave, HEP C
« on: April 04, 2016, 11:46:39 PM »
Hey there everyone.. I find myself in a bit of a situation.
Last Thursday - Saturday I felt absolutely terrible , called in for sick leave for work.. I didn't hardly wake up or get out of bed for over 36 hrs, had some gnarley stoach pain to boot.
I am a week away from getting license back and live nowhere near walking distance to the ER or Dr.  So I didn't go to the ER.. haven't gone this weekend either .. I plan on going tomorrow.. Now, my job is very taxing.. especially considering I have had hepatits C for 5 years and have taken the first step to get towards the cure, now just need xrays of my liver.. I'm going to neeed a dr.'s excuse to cover my ass for Thursday, Friday and tomorrow(Monday)..
Any suggestions on what  I should tell them... is there any chance I will be able to get written off since it's 4-5 days later.. I don't have a family doctor.  Should I go in there and be honest that I think it is problems with my liver.. or is there any other better excuse to give them.. If I don't have a doctors excuse by Tuesday I'm going to lose this job...
Hoping someone here has some insight + advice
Thankyou

At my last few jobs the employee could call-in sick
for three consecutive days and not bring in a doctor's note.

Could be termed for over three days and no note.

  A "retroactive" not sounds unlikely.

Sorry. I'm a little confused. Are you looking for a way to be excused from work or what you should do about your health?

What is your insurance situation?

When we call in sick you have to take atleast 3 days off max 2 weeks. Have to have a note
Sry about the confusion., Im just wondering how Im going to get an excuse.  The ones you can get off the net do look pretty legit so far but i think ill try and to to the ER first. My issue lies with being able to get excused for this past thursday, friday and then tommorow. I will just explain that i do not drive and basically slept for almost 2 days straight, thats the truth& plan thusfar unless anyone mentions something better.  I do have decent insurance
Not sure what ya mean by retroactive Jethro, My guess is you mean the doctors excuse paid for online
If you google bestdoctorsnotes and check out the top link you can get an idea.

The following is based on my own experience, not "official"  legal or medical advice.

If you do visit a doctor and tell them you haven't been to work for X days, it sounds completely reasonable for the doctor who sees you to write something like: "I saw [Mr. Rambus] today. In my opinion his condition warrants [X number] of days bed rest, including the past week (whatever). Any questions, please call my office at: XXX...

Don't wait to see a doctor until you feel better becasue they won't write that just because you say so. If you do (wait) all they can do is look at blood tests and take your word for it. Then (I think) confirm your hepatitis  but can't definitively say it is why you missed work.

A legitiamte doctor's note carries weight and firing someone over being sick isn't likely unless it is interfering with your ability to work in the long term and then you get into ADA (disabilities) and that's not something they want.

And: Wait, you have to take a minimum of 3 days  off if you call in sick? Is some rule regarding paid time/unpaid time. Not all illnesses last 3 days.

Note: In the original draft my auto-correct fixed a typo in "...bed rest.." to "beers."

That is correct, minimum of 3 days. I think they do it because manpower is an issue its a huge factory. So folks are less likely to call in sick if they know theyll miss out on over half a paycheck.
Thankyou for your advice. Unfortunately i am feeling better for the most part, but i guess they dont know that and i can complain of abdominal pain and fatigue or something. Hoping for the best

That minimum 3 days thing is really smart... way to flip the script.

By "Retro" I meant going in Monday and getting a note
for last Thursday.  I do think a legit note will satisfy the
official requirement.
The '3-day' thing is new to me. It would stop folks from
adding a day to five different holiday weekends, plus two events
would use up the standard "five paid sick days per year".
Otherwise this sounds like the usual...
'Three days needs a note, at ten days (consecutive)  you go to
long-term medical leave ; with more extensive documentation.
