Title: Calling all interweb nerds.... assistance/advice required
Post by: dizzle on May 02, 2016, 01:46:26 PM
So, there's some things dizzle is doing on the "side", I don't know how many of you know this, but I'm an engineer, I work in the valve industry, but when I'm not at work, I usuallyu am working on random things on the side with a business I started.

I do anything from building websites, either in templetes, or dreamweaver, depending on what the client wants, to 3d printing models for prototyping (yes I have a 3d printer in my living room, the GF doesn't love this but whatever), to wirintg valve sizing software, and creating digital models in solidworks and runnign stress/flow analysis on them.

ANYWAY, on to the issue at hand. I've been contracted to write a website promoting a book that a client wrote and got published. The website is VERY VERY basic, and he does not want a "real" website made, he just wants a few lines of text, a picture and a link to the book on amazon. This absolutely destroys my chances at proper search engine optimization, so I'm thinking of runnig some type of "grey area" shit like faking reviews on amazon to promote the product. Or maybe some gaming the google search system (SOMEFUCKINGHOW) to increase search rankings for certain keywords.

Does anyone have any experience in this? Or possibly can assist? If I can work something out with the client, a way of tracking traffic from the work done, I may be able to negotiate some type of commission.

Thoughts? Anyone who has any experience in this area want to go in on something like this?

Why does this destroy your chances at proper seo?

PM @shirobug (now mentioned) if you need answers to such questions - I'm sure he wouldn't mind ... or point him to this thread. he is a wonderful resource and helps me with technical stuff from time to time. he may see this mention and add to this.

he may know about SEO optimisation.

My understanding of seo, basic as it is, made the assumption it was rated on content, an with a short paragraph, a picture and a link to the Amazon page, there isn't much content to go on. The owner wants the site to pop on google for terms like "uranium" and "German u boat" and vague shit like that, all the while the content contains none of those. I know I can create meta tags but those are somewhat worthless without decent content, no?

Btw, the book is about wwii and how the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was actuall made up of more than half nazi uranium, that the us seized in a sub while it was on its way to japan. And, yes, it's a true story, apparently the author has evidence of this happening. Idk of its true as I've not reviewed the book yet....

I know a bit about SEO, but not a whole lot about gaming the system, per se.  Generally, if you have good, relevant content then the search rankings will reflect that.  Maybe you could add more content to the site by including the table of contents and a sample chapter to the web page, etc.

This guy bought craploads of Adsense ads for his book, and did a similar thing.  It got good reviews and rankings I think: http://www.squidlord.com/home/writings/thetriliskruins

For about 6 months the ads were everywhere on my phone.  I really want a good as blocker that isn't a whole browser for android.
