Title: What are you watching at the moment? Suggestions for TV shows and movies
Post by: skramamme on October 27, 2015, 07:02:57 PM
Hey all, in keeping with the "what are you listening to right now" post and the "what are you reading right now" I thought I would add a telly/movie thread too.

So what genres do you like to watch?

I find these days that 99% of drug related shows are so completely unrealistic and filled with discredited junk science that I just get annoyed and can't lose myself in the story.
IE; I tried watching Narcos and the narrator starts on about the old drug war myth of how studies showed that lab rats would ignore food and water in favour of cocaine and that is simply not true, but it was presented as fact so bugger that show.
But I am starting to watch Weeds which looks promising.

I recently finished watching season 2 of The Strain (based on Guillermo del Toro's trilogy) and it's pretty damn cool.
I also love Got, the first few seasons of The Walking Dead, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fringe, Star Trek TNG, Babylon 5 and other well written sci-fi/fantasy/horror shows.

Clever crime shows are also a favourite such as The Fall (Gillian Anderson is amazing in it), Luther, Wire in the Blood, Happy Valley (really good too) and I want to check out The Killing as I have heard that is excellent.

Oh, and "Louie" by Louis C.K is so damn good it should be a crime- that guy is a comedic genius imho. I like comedy shows but don't know enough titles to chase up, although Arrested Development is hilarious and Veep and OitNB are also both really good.
I have heard Community and Parks and Recs are good but I haven't gotten around to downloading them yet. So any suggestions for good comedy would be appreciated.

As for movies;
Pacific Rim (well worth checking out), Alien, This is Spinal Tap, The Thing (Kurt Russel's beard deserves it's own credits), Chicago, District 9, Moon, The Blues Brothers...
Oh, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (love love love), the original Star Wars trilogy, Snatch, the Life of Brian, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Jurassic Park... and I like good animation movies like Up, Monsters Inc, The Emperor's New Groove etc because I am super mature.

I'm sure I have left out stuff because it's like being asked what's your favourite cuisine... it really depends on my mood.

And if you made it this far here is That Mitchel and Webb Look's "Heroin Xmas"... gotta love nana's attempt at buying her grandson's Xmas drugs  ;D

You are going to be so sorry you asked me...I LOVE TV!

DRUNK HISTORY is an awesome show where they interview comedians and entertainers and have them recount a historically accurate story, then the celebrity (at the very least recognizable) actors act out and lip sync the story on screen with the storyteller as the voice over.

Oh, and did I forget to mention the best part?

THE COMEDIANS ARE ALL COMPLETELY TRASHED WHILE RECOUNTING THE HISTORICAL EVENT.

Many of the episodes are "laugh out loud til you hurt" funny. Its on Comedy Central and they are in the middle of their 3rd season right now.

That's my favorite one on right now, but the others that make me happy when I see them in the DVR are:

• GOTHAM
Really, really, really good. Especially the set design and overall imagery.

• THE LEAGUE
In its last season and starting to jump the shark a tiny bit, but still enormously funny especially when the character Raffi shows up. Several funny one liners that circulate in my house were born of that show.

• ONCE UPON A TIME
It's basic premise is "what if fairy tale characters lived in present day America". Its most interesting episodes are those that give you background story on a character that helps explain why they behave the way they do (i.e. The Evil Queen had something heartbreaking happen to her and it changed her...which is just like real people, everyone has a story and a history of why they are who they are.

Older shows I love to watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime:

• STARGATE UNIVERSE
The only Stargate franchise I like. It kinda feels Star Trek-esque, and has a very loose connection to its parent series. It could have been a stand alone series with very little tweaking.

• STAR TREK
Original Series, The Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise

• X-FILES
Gotta get ready for the new ones coming out!

• THE TWILIGHT ZONE

• THE OUTER LIMITS

• BATTLESTAR GALLACTICA & CAPRICA
Caprica had a very slow start because they were setting up ideas and background for the fiture of the series, and I was so disappointed it got cancelled before they could make another season. The previews for the season that never got made looked incredible.

• LAW & ORDER
The older, original ones, especially with Chris Noth and Jerry Orbach. We call it "The Lennie Show" at our house 😄

Oh yes, I forgot about Battlestar Galactica, that was a great series.

You should definitely check out Fringe, it was such a novel show, kinda like the x-files meets alternate universes. Really engaging (although I found the final season to be a bit meh in comparison to the first few) I reckon it's one of the best science fiction-y series out there (you'll find torrents for it easily, although it ended maybe 10 years ago).

And if you like clever horror then The Strain is totally worth checking out... I can't wait for next season.

Shame they cancelled Hannibal though, that was some interesting telly.

Ok thanks, I'll check them out (The Fringe sounds good in particular).

If you like Battlestar, did you watch Caprica? Not many people did (and thats why it was cancelled 😝), but I enjoyed it and it was frustrating not to have people to discuss it with.

Another one that should be coming back for another season is "The 100". I thought it was going to appeal too much to the teeage demographic based on the main characters ages and the network its on (CW), but it has evolved into a fairly good show.

Right now I'm watching South Park on Comedy Central.  I'm not really watching it.  It's more or less on for background noise.  I do that a lot with the TV.  I might glance over once in a while, but more often I'm staring at the computer screen.

As for shows I liked in the past:

Seinfeld
Roseanne
Will & Grace
Friends (although don't really care for it now)
Designing Women (but not post-Suzanne)
The Golden Girls
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Stargate SG-1
Stargate Atlantis
Star Trek TNG
Star Trek Voyager (especially b/c of all the Borg stuff.  Love the Borg.)
Star Trek Enterprise
Futurama

As for movies, I like a lot of period and historical dramas.

Jane Eyre (the 2011 remake)
The Young Victoria
The Age of Innocence
Marie Antoinette (Kirsten Dunst version)
Pride and Prejudice
Emma
Northanger Abbey
Persuasion
Sense and Sensibility
The Madness of King George
Mrs. Brown
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Little Women
Downton Abbey (PBS TV show on Masterpiece Classic)

I also like:

Girl Interrupted
High Art
Kill Bill 1 and 2 (that's about it for action)
But I'm a Cheerleader
Drop Dead Gorgeous
The Witches of Eastwick
The Help
Eat, Pray, Love
Bridesmaids

I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.

Since it's almost Halloween, there have been a lot of horror movies on.  I've been watching some of those.

We got to see Hitchcock's "Psycho" on the big screen last week, it was even better in the theatre.

Since you guys are TNG fans, you might get a kick out of this (or maybe not, its an inside joke that might not translate to text).  A couple of years ago, we bought a three flat building and did all the remodeling ourselves. I like to have TV on in the background (like Nark!), and TNG is one of mine and my DH's favorites and we know them practically by heart. So we know what's going in the episodes without having to see it, and just having it on offered us some comfort and distraction during the long days of construction.

There is one episode, I think it was one where Wesley was trying to talk to a girl for the first time and asking for advice, Worf says something along the lines of "I can't mate with human females, they are too fragile". Well that made us crack up and start to postulate what exactly was making sex so dangerous between a human female and Worf!?!

We decided he couldn't have sex with human females because he was packing a 38kg penis and it was his enormous Klingon cock that would hurt human females. It became even funnier when we figured out how much 38 kg converted to in pounds. Then every time we actually watched an episode with Worf we would laugh trying to figure out how he was carrying around such a ginormous package (a sling !?!). It became hilarious when Troi started dating him at the end of the series because she is half human and must have a special hoohaa to be able to mate with Worf!

Ok, now that you know how sick and weird I am....

LOL @ Worf dick.

IIRC, I think he said (in one of the episodes, not sure which) that Klingon sex is rather violent.  I remember him saying the females bite the males, etc.  I can't see your typical human female getting into that.  Unless she has a Klingon BDSM fetish.

Honestly, I can see some extreme Trekkies, the kind that dress up and go to conventions, as doing that.  Wanting to get it on with a "Klingon" for raunchy Klingon sex.  I'm sure some freaky shit goes on at those places when the lights go off.
Title: Re: What are you watching at the moment? Suggestions for TV shows and movies
Post by: Flutterby on October 28, 2015, 01:40:25 AM
You're correct Nark! The episode where he mates with the half Klingon half human ambassador (who shows up a couple seasons later with his son Alexander), there is mention of rough, kinda violent sex. I think they also mention Klingon women being quite sexually aggressive in the episode that Riker does the officer exchange program on a Klingon ship.

I like being bitten and giving love bites (and I'm sure a lot of other human females do too) just not to the point of drawing blood!

LOL, I never thought about extreme Trekkie convention after hours activities, but I bet you hit the nail on the head....or the Klingon 38kg penis nailed someone, or got head, or something...

Mr. Robot

I've heard so many great things about that show, have to find it somewhere online to watch it.

@Pullmyhair., I noticed a couple Adult Swim shows on your list. Are you a Robot Chicken and/or Mike Tyson's Mysteries fan also? I forgot to add them to my list.

I forgot about Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer.  I love those.

I like a lot of the female comedians on Comedy Central.  Not so much the male.  They're always so juvenile and frat-guyish.  Shit like Workaholics.  Just stupid IMO.  And I loathe Daniel Tosh.  So not funny to me.

I also like Another Period a lot.  It's absurdly funny.

I just started watching The Knick and it is great. Someone here made a thread about it so I decided to check it out and I watched the first season in a day. I just started the new seasons of gotham and the walking dead. If you have cable you can usually use their site on the internet to watch all the episodes that is what I do using my mom's cable and netflix accounts. I also watched all of prison break which was good the only things I didn't like was there was a cliffhanger scene every 10 minutes and if they would of just killed a few people they wouldn't of been in half of the shit they went through.

Louis Theroux Documentaries (they are almost all on youtube and almost all fantastic. id start with the brothel, gambling or americas medicated kids episodes first)
Keeping Up Appearances
Moon (the sam rockwell flick)
The Knick is absolutely phenomenal and I cant wait for the new season. check that out if you are into period pieces or drug addicted doctors.

and I cant recommend the documentaries Florida Man and American Juggalo enough. they are by the same guy who has a few more great docs on vimeo, ones a full length feature about a small town that basically became completely devastated by oxy. its called Oxyana.
heres Florida Man and Juggalo respectively.

and this weird funny aussie movie I saw years ago that no one else has ever heard of.

I really liked this thread and thought I should bust out the defibrillator on it after watching the first 2 seasons of power on starz. Has anyone else watched it? It's pretty good it's kind of reminds me of the wire but they replaced the depth, and most of the other things that made it so real, and good with drama and the usual tv series stuff. It's about one of the biggest drug dealers in NY who owns a night club, and it revolves around him and how he tries to maintain being a legit business owner despite being a huge drug dealer. If you guys watch stuff on your computer starz is doing a free week trial so you can catch the first 2 seasons the 3rd season starts next week.

Has anyone heard anything about The Knick? That is one of my favorite shows but I don't know if they are going to make a 3rd season or not the first 2 were awesome and I'd recommend everyone to check it out. Are there any good movies, shows, or documentaries about drugs, addiction, or prison that you guys have seen? I like the show Lockup where they go to a bunch of different jails and prisons and talk to the inmates and stuff.

I just watched daredevil which is good, and Orange is the new black which I like a lot theres an Australian show called Wentworth that is kind of like orange is the new black, a female prison in Australia and the goings on it's on netflix too. I tried watching the Jessica Jones show but didn't finish the first season it seemed really stupid to me even though I love superhero stuff, the Luke Cage show that they are making looks badass though, he was the only part of jessica jones I liked. Anyone watch Gotham? That is definitely one of my favorites so is Better Call Saul.

Anyone have any recommendations for good movies, shows, or documentaries I am always looking for new stuff to watch. I watch way to much tv like way way to much it's sad but I really like movies and tv shows. I just rewatched Drugstore Cowboy because it's on starz and I have 5 days left of my free trial. That movie is so awesome, I think people who haven't seen it are weird especially if they are junkies. A lot of people haven't seen Candy with Heath Ledger, that is one of the best heroin movies ever made.

I would love to be able to go to a pharmacy and load up, that is my dream either that or a pill manufacturing warehouse, pick up a 50 gallon drum of pure oxyM powder with no filler. If it weighed 700lbs it would be 318 million mgs, so if you did 100 mg doses it would be 3 million doses. So if you dosed 5x a day it would last 1743 years hah. If it weighed 400lbs it'd last 993 years that's probably closer. Could you imagine?

I think My dream would be 5 50 gallon drums one of oxym, one of H, one of oxyC, one of xanax, and one of coke, That would be the life, live on an island and just chill.

There has been some good sci Fi lately if you're in to that.  The expanse was breathtaking.  One of my favorite book series made into a show, and the show competes well with the book for a change.

Also dark matter.  It has a firefly kind of aesthetic, but the characters are mercenaries who lost their memories while in stasis travelling somewhere.  Sounds cheesy, but great writing and relatable characters made it awesome.  They use practical effects instead of green screening everything, and the result is perfect.

I have a bunch of shows that I want to watch, but don't have time for.  That's pretty damn rare.  Usually TV is pretty bland.  As for Gotham, I loved the first season and lot interest during the second.  I will try to pick it up again at some point.

Neighbor-

If you like Sam Rockwell he's done some unique and intersting parts. I like many of them and particularly enjoyed "Box of Moon Light" whith another oddball actor, John Tuturro. It also features Catherine Keener who I have always found especially appealing. I think that film is under-appreciated.

In fact, when you mentioned "Moon" that's what I thought you meant, not the one you did where he is a clone running a lunar mine.

You might also like "Choke" where he works as a "re-inactor" at a sort of "Colonial Williamsburg" who was raised by a crazy woman (Angelica Huston) who abducted him as a child and that thought he was a a descendant of Jesus (?).

He always takes really odd and complex characters.

@neighbor Thanks for these recommendations! I saw Cam Girlz in the theater and loved it. They even had some of the gals featured in the film there for a Q&A. Mr Robot is good I just binged on the whole first season. You can get that on Amazon prime
The Mindy Project on hulu. Also on hulu The Path, it's got Jessie Pinkman from Breaking Bad.
The Jinx on HBO
Roadies on show time
Holy Rollers is a good movie about a xtcy ring in new York. Based on a true story

The Knick (series 1 and 2)
Title: Re: What are you watching at the moment? Suggestions for TV shows and movies
Post by: Griffin on July 20, 2016, 12:57:00 PM
I just recently rewatched all the seasons of prison break, its good. I stopped watching it when it was on tv because all the stupid cliff hangers but it wasn't so bad on netflix, it definitely repeats and has a bit of excessive drama but good none the less, I think it's funny if they would of just killed like 2 or 3 people they would of been set and made out season 2 but what's good tv without drama.

I really hope they make more seasons of the knick I have watched both seasons 3x already it's so good, and a new season is still up in the air I believe, and they have talked about not having thack in it and doing a completely different hospital, cast, and story probably close to the same time period maybe a decade later from what I understand but that is all just speculation. I don't think it has gotten renewed yet by cinemax.

I was pissed when they pushed the new planet of the apes movie out another year it was supposed to come out last month but they decided to have it come out this time next year because of all the super hero movies this year. I think it's called War for The Planet of The Apes, it has the setup to be an awesome movie, I love all the planet of the apes though even the mark wahlberg remake. The last 2 were so dope rise of the planet of the apes and dawn of the planet of the apes, the first scene of dawn is so sick them hunting elk. It's been about a year since I watched the old ones I might watch the first one again.

I just watched the new Mad Max Fury Road movie it was really good, honestly I thought it was going to suck. I watched the first 5-10 minutes and wasn't that into it when it first came out but I am glad I went back and watched the whole thing. I hate to admit this but I have never seen the original series, I just started the 1st one and am planning on watching it and the 2nd today. I watched part of beyond the thunderdome when I first heard they were making Fury Road and didn't like it so I never checked out the series until now.

The capt america movie was pretty good, I am looking to Suicide squad more than I was Civil War though, cant wait to see it. I thought the batman movie was okay but compared to what it should of been it sucked. They definitely screwed it up and am hoping they change the director. The only movie I have liked that Chris reeves has made is 300, I will be pissed if they let him do Justice League and the others if he messes them up too. I know a lot of people like watchmen but I haven't watched it I remember it sucking and me turning it off pretty quickly so I may go back and check it out.

I mean batman vs superman was good I just feel like it could of been amazing if someone like Christopher Nolan who did the christian bale batmans did it. I wanted someone new and a new storyline that wasn't the christian bale one but it seems lacking especially when it has so much potential. I feel the same way about his superman movies though too, it was hard to sit through the whole thing for me. I though Ben Affleck did a really good job with it, and was thinking he was going to be the reason I didn't like it so I tried to go in without expectations but was disappointed.

I would be totally down for another Christian Bale storyline sequel though, I dug all 4. I am stoked about the new bourne movie they are doing that was a good series, I watched the bourne legacy one at least 10 times over 2 days while in jail because it was the movie they gave us and I still like it, I watched Act of Valor more than that in jail for the same reason at least I hadn't seen it and it's good.

There was one cool CO who would let us watch movies on Saturday if he worked our pod, so 2 weeks of 3 I was in that jail he did and got us movies to watch. They had 2 TV's in the 80 person pod but you had to buy $120 headphones to listen to them, one was set to Spanish one was english they were probably 32 inch flat screens but they were 10 foot in the air and you had to be at least 12 feet away so it was hard to read the captions when they were turned on.

So the jail had 4 movies for all the pods on that floor to watch on Saturdays for the people who didn't have headphones and they set a little older tv up in the game room so that you could hear it if you went in to watch it. That they passed around and the CO got us the bourne movie from redbox, he was a legit nice person treated us like actual people. The movies were over the hedge, what happens in vegas, act of valor, the johnny depp charlie and the chocolate factory needless to say I won't ever watch those movies again I probably could rehearse them.

I watched them in Spanish probably 5x each, they would play it in English then Spanish and then ask to trade with another pod and do that again but one Sat. we didn't get to switch so Act of Valor was on repeat. There was one guard who was kind of a dick he didn't let us watch movies on sat. but he got me out of going to the hole so I was fine with it despite the fact he was a dick and treated almost everybody like they were dogs who just shit on his couch.

A week before I got out, everyone wasn't paying attention to the time cause we were watching movie and the guard wasn't in the pod to let us know it was almost 11. So right before it turned 11 everyone just bailed and ran to their bunk leaving all the chairs and tables out in the game room which is exactly what I should of done.

Instead my dumb ass figured they wouldn't let us watch movies the next week if everything was left out so I stacked the chairs and was on my way walking to my bunk when the Capt. walked by and saw me and another guy weren't in our bunk yet and it was 11:04 . So he made us sit outside while they packed up our stuff to move us to 23 hr lockdown.

When the capt, got finished writing our disciplinary reports and started taking us to ad. seg. the guard who was supposed to be in the pod watching us who'd been gone for at least a half hour came back, and asked us what happened. I figured I was screwed cause he was an ass but he decided to let me get off with a warning cause I was always respectful, but they made the other kid goto lockdown. I think the only reason he let me stay and the other kid go was because he was black. A similar thing happened at the last jail I was at they locked down a black kid and not the white one for doing the exact same thing.

To make matters worse I had only seen a tattoo on the kid I got in trouble with and that he was about my age. So the next day I asked another black guy if they let him back in thinking it was the kid who got in trouble with me cause he had a tattoo in the same spot and was the same age and height. So from then on all but one of the 7 black guys in my pod joked with me about being racist who thinks all black dudes look a like which was kind of funny but got annoying after a while. The other black dude was legit he just did 10 years of fed time and was funny as shit.

hah sorry for the random story that has nothing to do with this thread, I think I may have ADD or something... Do any of you guys like jamba juice? jk

Just finished the Netflix original Stranger Things this morning. Pretty good, entertaining series. Can't wait for season 2. Currently watching the 2nd season of Penny Dreadful and it's alright.

Halfway through Limitless on Netflix. Good show. Funny and the case-of-the-week is usually about some crazy fringe science like optogenetics/false memories, bacteria that feeds off electricity, and super smart prosthetic limbs. Actually, the show kind of reminds me of Fringe but without the deep mythology. Some of the same actors are in it too like Blair Brown (Nina Sharp) and Georgina Haig (Henrietta).

I mostly love watching documentaries, but as far as shows go I just finished the first 2 seasons of The Fall on Netflix. I'm ready for the next season now, but have no idea if/when their making it. I'm a sucker for shows like that. I've always been a big Law & Order fan and I loved Criminal Minds for years but the last couple of seasons started getting kinda cheesy. Same with OITNB. The first season was great, even the second season was pretty good, but then it started to get to be a bit much. I mean, it's based (loosely) on a book about a check who did what 10 months in prison or something? How long are they gonna stretch that shit out? I watched the first couple of episodes of Wentworth a couple years ago but sort of lost interest. Maybe I'll try to get back into that.

Trainspotting 2 is coming out in Jan. The first one was so awesome I hope the second one is good I don't see how they can fuck it up really but I have high hopes and will probably like it either way.

My thoughts on random posts in here

-The Knick is fucking awesome, from the very first to the very last scenes of Dr. Thackery
-From what I've seen (moat of 4th season) Banshee is really good
Hard to guess what's going to happen and how and when, pretty rare for me
-Daniel Tosh is the embodiment of douche bag frat boy humor (unapologetically racist/sexist as an attempt to be "edgy" but just comes off as really fucking stupid)
-Trainspotting was great, hopefully they will follow the book Porno for the sequel
-Gotta watch Reindeerspotting if you haven't seen it and love 40mgtoFreedom's avatar
-What is this show Stranger Things and why does It have the Star Wars look to its poster?

I'm currently obsessed with Animal Kingdom. Its sort of a modern day Fargo (the TV series not the movie).
Really good stuff.

Watching Stranger Things on Netflix and Preacher on AMC.
I really have enjoyed Stranger Things. Nice to see Winona Ryder acting and is doing a pretty good job so far.
Outcast on Showtime is turning out to be pretty good.

The Night Of, on HBO, is starting out really good. It's what's replacing Game of Thrones on Sunday nights. Omar, from The Wire, is in it. There's a murder in episode one but it's not really a who-done-it, more of a prison procedural.

A young Pakistani man "borrows" his dad's cab to drive to a party that, being the uncool kid, he's desperate to go to. Before he gets there though a beautiful young woman climbs into the cab and ends up derailing his plans, giving him some e and then taking him home for drinking and sex. Being the uncool kid who never parties, he feels sick and ends up passed out in the kitchen while she's in bed. In the morning, she's dead of multiple (!) stab wounds. He flees but due to an unfortunate chain of events ends up caught. Now he's being shuffled through the justice system while his parents try to deal with his troubles from the outside with no money and no experience in such things.

Having not been to prison myself I'm curious if the prison scenes are accurate.

I started watching the Bates Motel on Netflix with the better half.  Pretty good after 4 episodes.  It's a prequel to the movie sort of.

Okay then, I guess it is pretty accurate! I've never been through any of that and it gives ME anxiety to watch. It's not a true story. It's based on a BBC show, Criminal Justice.

@thetalkingasshole asked, What is this show Stranger Things and why does It have the Star Wars look to its poster?

Stranger Things is a sci-fi/horror show set in the 80s that seems to draw a lot of inspiration from Altered States, Stand by Me, Firestarter, and most definitely E.T. There's a girl with strange powers, an alternate dimension, government experiments, a group of friends who play D&D and communicate via walkie talkies and ride their bikes everywhere and anywhere, clueless 80s parents, mean 80s bullies, an incompetent local police department, the frazzled single mom, a quiet creepy loner boy with a heart of gold, and all the 80s references a nostalgic 40-something could ever ask for but presented in an organic way within a cool, creepy, jump-when-startled storyline.

"The Night of...." is shaping up to be good. HBO usually does a good job with this type of series, ones that are a little too involved for a single feature film and too grim or bloody to go on regualr tv. The "True Detective" series, especially seasone 1 is a good example.

So far the jail scenes have been moving from the local Manahatttan precinct whre he is initially taken to what they tell us is RIkers Island. I've never had the misfortunet o visit Rikers but in this series it looks more like a cross between a Medieval dungeon and a mid-20th Century prison. However in the nadful of county jails I've been inside most look completely different. Far brighter and noisier than anything I see in film and TV.

With the exception of the now replaced Dade County Jail I hardly saw any old style iron bars for walls and doors. It's all heavily painted cinder block walls, steel doors and plexi- or reinforced shatterproof glass windows and pod walls. Most are 2 tiered C-shaped pods with a common area inside the C and guards station in the middle of several pods.

It is almost like the jails we see in film and tv are romantic notions of prison as either a contemplative place or rape factories.

One of the exceptions was the recent A&E series "60 Days In" which is filmed in a real Indiana County jail with hidden cameras. If you haven't seen it, it is kind of interesting: they take about half a dozen volunteers and lock them up with in gen-pop and you see they had absolutely no idea what they were in for. The ones that went in who had "law and order" attitudes (including an actual cop) thought people in jail had it easy and all deserved worse were the first to fail, which isn't surprisingto anyone who actually been in a jail.

I watched a few episodes of 60 days in it was interesting but I didn't like it, I love lockup though. Figures it's the assholes who think jail is to easy to be the first ones to bitch out. I agree the 2 jails i have been are exactly like you described pods with grey painted cinderblock one i had my own cell and the other was open, the med. and max. security floors in the jail had cells where it was open for gen pop but everything in the little jail was your own cell which was quite nice for the first few weeks of w/d, better food too.

I finished the first 2 ep. of the night of, going to watch the 3 and 4th when it comes on today. It's still really good, and I like how accurate it is about how the cops are playing your friends who are trying to help you and the whole court process, i don't know how much more grueling you can make the booking process but i was satisfied with how they showed it. It'll be interesting to see how they do the jail and such it'd be nice to hear from someone whose been in rikers.

I loved the john turtorro quote from ep. 1 or 2 "The truth can goto hell because it doesn't help you, if you can't get that through your head right now you can forget about the rest of your life."

"The Night of..." just keeps getting better. Finished part 4 tonight and was impressed. Gonna watch this through to the end.

If you don't mind subtitles, the Norwegian disaster film, "The Wave" is a great ride. At points I forgot I was reading subtitles, always a good sign. A lot of the Netflix reviews complained about the last 45 minutes but I thought it was great all the way through.

Really enjoyed "Stranger Things". The Duffer Bros. are getting better and better. Their last series, "Wayward Pines" sort of sucked the second season but now that they are behind the wheel of "Stranger Things" they seem more confident.

"Mr. Robot" started out pretty well but I'm not sure where it's going suddenly. The main character is supposedly crazy but the writers have spent 4 or 5 shows beating that theme into the viewer's head. Alright already! We get it! The good part is they get the tech right for a change.

Part 5 of the night of just showed it was damn good, the show gets better and better, i read what happened on the criminal justice show which is the British show the night of is based on, so hopefully that doesn't totally ruin it for me but the suspense was a bit much, I can't wait 3 weeks. I am thinking about watching the criminal justice one this week see if its good as well. Either way The night of is bad ass and john turtorro is awesome in it.

I am enjoying "The Night of..." as well. As long as it doesn't dip to far into "police procedural" it will probably be quite satisfying. Naz's transformation is happening a little quickly in our week-to-week installments leading to some indulgence though. For instance, the cat that Stone puts in the shelter has only 10 days before "disposal" and when he picks it up after 9.5 days but at the same time the case has lept way forward and Naz hs bulked up and "broke bad" in a similiar time frame. Still I am OK going with it and suspending some disbelief.

I kind of lost interest in "Stranger Thngs" and although I watched the whole season I stopped caring about 2/3 of the way through. The 80's ET "homage" was a little thick off for me but I was too old for ET when it came out so that might explain that.

I started to write a post about the second season of "Mr. Robot" but decided to re-watch the new episodes and some of last year first to get some clarity on some of the secondary characters (like the female power lawyer who is into S&M) who seem to have come from nowhere and Craig Robertson's character as well. It was so fresh last season I hope it doesn't suffer the "Sophopmore Slump" many fist-season hits have in their second season.

I just tonight finished binge-watching "Animal Kingdom" on TNT which is based on the very good Austrailian movie of the same name. The TNT version is a little like "Sons of Anarchy" (fuck the whole Teller family, the only good thing was that Jimmy Smits and Drea Dematto escaped and saved the kids from becoming corrupt) which started strong but after a whileI found nothing redeemable in any of the characters. Animal Kingdom is falling into that trap but kept my interst so far. IT is probably very tricky to write a sustained show about charismatic villians because ultimately viewers won't continue to root for them as they corrupt everything they touch. Walter White was ultimately corrupted and evil by the end of "Breaking Bad" we all still wanted to know what happened to him, which made that show so remarkable.

But like the rest of us I am always hoping to be surprised by something unique.

The U.S. version of Shameless on netflix is good. William Macy is great in this, but then again I've liked him in everything that I've seen him in.

Crossing Point was alright. Friends go to Mexico to surf, girl gets snatched, guy has to smuggle 5 keys across border in 12hr or girl gets whacked, it was better then most movies of the sort.

It takes me longer to find a movie on netflix thats worth watchin then it does to watch the movie. Maybe I'm too picky.

You die. How long can people stay awake? Seems decent but is not on tv or netflix. Its on a pay site called roster teeth which sucks. but if you do some digging you should be able to find it elsewhere.

I'm binge watching the second season of Narcos tonight, I should finish it before to methadone clinic opens.  Can't help but root for Escobar.  I always root for the bad guys!

Hearing great things about Gotham but I haven't started it

I started watching Penny Dreadful but I lost interest halfway thru the 1st season.  Should I keep going with this show??? If anybody knows, please advise

As far as Trainspotting 2, I'm a little nervous it could come off as depressing since it is 20 years later

Bad Santa 2 is coming out too.

Football then the NBA, I'm a super fan of both sports.  Go Jets, Go Knicks!!!

30 for 30 ESPN Docs are also great if you are a sports fan.

I pretty much watch Mystery Science Theater all day everyday. lol.

ATM I'm really looking forward to the latest season of RuPaul's Drag Race premiering in a few days, (I fangirl HARD over Drag Race). Also watching Ryan Murphy's Feud but not impressed with it at all. I expected something better since I'm a fan of American Horror Story... but come to think of it, considering how awful Roanoake was, I probably shouldn't have expected much.

Some British shows have been mentioned here, Black Mirror is really good. There's a 4th season coming out this year.

If anyone is into the government conspiracy type stuff OR puzzles and/or mysteries, I highly suggest
Rubicon
There is only one season. It was canceled for probably being too real. It's about a 4th branch of government that controls disasters and awful events for self gain and profit. Ridding of the awoken people or suspicious people. It was and still is my favorite show that has hit television. It was an AMC production I believe.. I'm looking it back up tomorrow.

You all seem cool enough to let you in on a wittle secret.. There's an app that can be installed on PC, Android, the Firestick and a few other devices. I haven't paid for cable or paid to watch anything in a few years now.
Kodi is the app/program. Theres plenty of YouTube videos and interweb directions to set it up. I'm an avid user of the app and know the best internal apps to install to get it running. Feel free to message me for directions.
Right now, the working third party apps within Kodi that should be installed, *If you choose to do it* are UKturk & Elysium. Free movies, TV shows, Documentaries, Categories, search features... you name it.. productions going all the way back to the 1950s. Oh and did I mention it's free?

Kodi lets you grab the streams from a bunch of sites like putlocker 123movies, solarmovies and on and on.  It contains a program that works like an aggregator for all of the streaming sites.  I use the exodus app more then the ones mentioned personally.

Affordable too. A regular fire stick is $40, a jailbroken one with Kodi installed on it is like $60-80.
