Title: AL Senator Jeff Sessions AG Confirmation Hearing begins today
Post by: nakota1445 on January 11, 2017, 05:05:52 AM
http://blog.norml.org/2017/01/10/just-in-sessions-evades-firm-answer-on-state-marijuana-laws/

Article linked to NORML's coverage of Marijuana enforcement under potential AG Jeff Sessions. (Interesting side note: Sen Corey Booker [D-NJ] is poised to testify against Sessions on Wednesday, 1/11/17. This would be the first time a sitting US Senator has testified against another sitting US Senator for the purpose of a presidential appointment confirmation hearing.) Senator Sessions also is accused of bigotry, prosecutorial misconduct during his time as US Attorney for Alabama's southern district, and as Alabama Attorney General. His potential appointment would be a large step backwards for the Marijuana legalization movement, and the end to the "War on Drugs" writ large. NORML advocates for calling judiciary committee rank members to pressure them to be critical of Sessions record on Drug reform but his appointment seems likely to be confirmed by a majority Republican Senate. The proverbial die is about to be cast, and I for one am concerned for a DEA crackdown on drug consumption in general. I don't really post that much anymore but I feel obligated to inform our membership of what is potentially about to happen if this guy is confirmed.

Someone should have dosed him with a high-powered hallucinogen just prior to questioning.

I think the problem is,so many of Trumps nominations are dangerous and with the possibility of Trump nominating two or more supreme court judges, battles have to be carefully picked.

Pretty sad day when Sessions becoming attorney general is seen as a lesser evil, but here we are.

I think It's pretty sad when the Senator that used to be on the TV show Saturday Night Live, Senator Al Franken may have been the one to most get under Jeff Sessions's skin.

Also we know that grabbing a woman's genitals is confirmed to be sexual assault so...check one for that! YAY!

Although he said it would be a quote "a stretch" to call it sexual assault for the AG to call the President grabbing a woman's genitals sexual assault...so...yeah.

Tomorrow we get people including 2 congressman and no sitting senator has ever...ever testified against another sitting senator at their conformation hearing. But that happens tomorrow...so...yeah.

UPDATE: Cory Booker, joined by Rep. John Lewis and Rep. Cedric Richmond took to the Senate judiciary committee to voice their displeasure for the potential AG pick. Statements above in third link. First two links outline Session's policy and his views on Marijuana and drug reform more generally.

UPDATE: Well, to almost no one's surprise AG pick AL Senator Jeff Sessions was confirmed as the next AG of the USA.
I have no words for this, except that if bigots can get a chance to hold the highest law official in the land than non-violent drug offenders prohibition to vote is a civil injustice.
Our government officially supports racism and even censures brave Senators who speak out (read: Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker)
