NALTREXONE: Recently rehabbed, used, when to start?
« on: August 17, 2015, 02:49:26 AM »
First, I'm on a phone, so excuse shirt formatting.

I'm theSWPK from the 'phile, some of you know (or at least of) me. If not, I'm a cool dude what's up?

Aight, here's the situation:
I'm recently rehabbed, 20 something days clean, got home, I've used my beloved oxym 4 times in the past 3 days.
I'm planning on taking naltrexone tablets (fuck the vivitrol shot). Seeing as I'm without a physical dependence, how long should I wait before starting the tablets? I'm planning on titration my dose with an oral syringe and starting at 1/10 the dose and going up. Idk how many days to wait. By the book it's 10 days, but that's for people coming from active addiction.

And fucking right that shot of oxym blew my brains out but son of a bitch, it's a lifestyle I must leave behind.

Advice?

Don't do it and if you have to do it low and slow.

Much luck with it-I fear you'll need it.

Yeah, I'm not stoked about having that stuff in my body, but atleast it's not an implant or polymer injection so I can stop taking it if it gets bad. Naltrexone blocks endogenous opioid peptide sites = endorphins are blocked. Ugh.
The only positive side other than its purpose, it's useful for treating depersonalization and derealization disorders of which I suffer. I got triggered pretty bad after seeing the stimuli of the sober world.

Are you being made to take Revia / naltrexone, or is it something you chose to do?

I'm glad you chose the pills rather than the Vivitrol injection.  That shit's horrible IMO.

Good luck and all.  I hope it serves your purposes.  But...I wouldn't touch that shit with a ten foot pole.  I especially don't like how it blocks your brain's natural opiates (endorphins, enkephalins, and dynorphins).

Take the half life and multiply it by 7. So between 50 to 70 hours if you have no current dependency... I'd really give it a good 5 to 7 days minimum. The hell that is naltrexone pwd isn't worth risking. Not one bit.

Yo, SWPK!   Whats up homie!

I by and large agree with Nick.  Experi3nces and side effects from naltrexon can be terrible.

Im interested and going to read up on the de personalization and de realization that you experience.

I dont know bro so i wont offer advice,  but good luck w it.  Naltrexon can be terrible.

If you wana put up a barrier that will help you out mentally if your will power dies than I dont see what would be that bad bout taking it. I had to be clean 5 days in rehab before they pumped some vivitrol in me. I beat myself up for not going with subs at first but really, maintenace is just a longer and harder road that is more pleasent for that first stretch. Im pretty sure it does stop serotonin production or some crazy shit and can make you depressed as shit.Just make sure your wanting to do it one hundred percent and I dont see it hurting you unless those sideffects get bad. If they do just take some sub, its got a higher affinity. I dont know of anything else that does. I know some of this seems contradictory. Its just a treatment that varies greatly from person to person imo. You being on the pills, you can test the waters before taking that plunge.

I had pwd so badly that I felt like all of my body was seizing up, I couldn't control it. It was fucking horrible. The story behind that whole episode is long so I'll just end with BE VERY CAREFUL.  I'll never touch that shit again. Swear. But if it helps you, just be cautious. Pwd is not a place you'd like to visit...

IDK what your dope history is like, but for me (and I've been like this for a really long time) 4 shots of dope after (only)  3 weeks clean is PLENTY to make me sick again. Maybe not horribly sick, but enough that taking an antagonist would fuck me up badly. It takes me a full two weeks to even be close to recovered from a *LIGHT* dope habit, that 72hrs crap is complete BS. We're all wired differently, but after you've ridden this ride a few times, it gets a whole lot harder to kick than it was the first time.

I'd say make damned sure you know you're as "clean" as you think you are, it's really easy to kid yourself about this, but PWD is no joke, especially when you're dealing with naltrexone.

Hopefully you've done some really solid research about this drug, cos it's really no fucking joke..

I would wait at least 2 weeks. At least this past winter I had gone to detox and then went to a rehab where they basically forced the Naltrexone pills/ shot on me. I said fuck no to the shot, but agreed to try the tablets. I had been completely opiate-free for 12 days when the doctor told me I would be fine to start taking it. What a HUGE mistake, I swear even though he didn't know, that's extremely fucked up. I obviously went into precipitated withdrawals, horribly for like 2 days. Even worse PWDs than from taking Suboxone too early. I can't even stand to see those things ever again.

Anyway, I'm sure it was because of the Suboxone I was given at detox, because 12 days "should" have been enough. But the longer-acting subs got me. Someone told me it's cool to take naltrex when you longer feel any lingering withdrawal symptoms, don't know the validity of that though. This is the type of crap that makes me not trust doctors.

I would wait at least 2 weeks. <snip>

two weeks is a magical number, use ONCE fortnightly and you won't ever catch a habit.

Lol once fortnightly...

I've been everyday from the posting of this thread. Still not sick, not even yawns, thank dog.

Moving to another city 45 min away to be imprisoned in suburbia with family and no vehicle. Im totally aware that a 45 minute drive isn't going to stop me from getting dope, I've been 2000 miles from home and had a hookup in a little over a day. But this will be an annoying stick in my spokes. That and 12 Step meetings, which, Being irreligious, I hate.

The naltrexone finally got some use. Friend overdosed while camping, being over an hour from an ambulance, he got a 12.5mg shot of wake the fuck up. Oddly enough it was faster acting than naloxone iv. I've revived people many times with naloxone and it always took 5 to 8 minutes, even with 2 vials. This guy was UP in under 5.
