This technology is going to bring about a whole new age of drug use. I imagine people soon having access to and use things like that, auto-injectors with replacable vials of their DOC, haha lik NUKE in robocop. Posts like this are the reason I love this site.

On the flipside, I was recently reading an article (though I think it might have been from the local "alt weekly" fro 20 years ago, I'm not sure) that described how the city was replacing the lightbulbs in park bathrooms with ones that make it *harder* to find a vein, to discourage shooting up there. ::)
Talk about lose-lose: nobody's quitting because their preferred spot changed bulbs, while on the other hand you have more longer lines for non-druggies trying to use the bathroom, as the people trying to get off occupy it that much longer as they struggle to find a vein

I got bloodwork done with one these lights helping out. The one they had cost alot so said the nurse. Id love to have one. Im sleeved up and she found a spot i would have never found! I hate giving blood unless they have these vien finders. Even then your still a pin cushion!
Next time im just gonna be like theres a good one in the crook of my leg. Lol

i was just lookin this thing up the other day. my mom had a medical procedure done recently and they couldn't find a vein on her so they whipped this thing out and her veins lit the fuck up. i need something like this SO badly. i have never been able to hit the veins in the crook of my arm caujse they're SO far below the surface (im not fat either my veins just dont bulge at all) i can occasionally see the color of the vein under the skin and hit it like one or two times then it bruises and i have to wait for it to heal to find it again. my veins on both wrists and my hands are totally blown out from 10yrs of abuse.
anyone know how much these things cost or if they're available for the public? website only lists distrubutors.\

An excellent tool to have in any medical setting, but very expensive for the users at home.
I am surprised that more hospital and other clinical settings do not use these wonderful devices.
Just had to have an MRI done recently and after 4 pokes, I was done.
Asked them if they had a vein finder and the technician didn't even know they existed.
I always look for an opportunity to spread some HR info, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears.
I cannot be the only one who has hard to find veins that comes for an MRI and needs contrast.
And as a technician, don't tell me your an expert at starting an IV and can get it on one try.
I realize why someone might say that to a patient, but from my own experience as a nurse it is always best to act confident, but not cocky.
If I tell someone I am a tough stick there is a reason for that and it stems from my experience of being stuck multiple times.
If you have do inject with someone else around, the use of a flashlight can do the trick!

Feb 2015 I was in the ED at Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria VA, and they used a vein finder but this one was different. It projected an image onto the skin, of veins that were below the surface. I think that one is much cheaper, and uses IR detection for the vein imaging.
This one is much more direct, in that it simply uses very bright light source emitting in exactly the right wavelength (sort of a reddish-orange) for maximum contrast, to find veins below the skin surface. I don't know why it costs so much. You could build one yourself if you are electronics-savvy. Fashioning the box in which to mount the LEDs would be the biggest challenge. Would have to be handcrafted plastic or maybe even wood. Mount a bunch of bright LEDs in it, in a semicircular arrangment - et voilá, vous havez une 'veinfinder!'
The el cheapo model is ONLY $279 LOL! Delux is $629. Seems like a lot for a box with a bunch of LEDs in it. Basically a flashlight with purple and red LEDs instead of white ones.

We have something like this, basically just a really strong red flashlight that is focusable. Its nice cause my husband's veins are invisible under his olive/tan skin, so the visible ones and ones in the crooks are the only ones he was using before we got it, and they seriously need a break. They are healing up and looking better now that the veins in the top of the forearms can be used with the help of the light. Also the ones in the hands and wrists are accessable now, whcih were invisible before. It is really easy for me to hit myself cause i am pale and my veins bulge enough to feel them, so I haven't really used it on myself, but I can reccommend it highly from using it to hit him.
Edited to say: I just realized the price some of these things cost people on here are saying. Ours was $50 and I thought that was a rip off for a fancy flashlight. Guess it could have been a lot worse!
