I'm listening to this entire lecture, btw, which covers (and includes examples of) young Neil Megson's first experiments, COUM Transmissions, the relationship with Burroughs (hilarious). She discusses the development of their proto-sampling, and their many innovations. From the evolution of Throbbing Gristle into the emergence of Psychic TV (enter Dhedmo on the outskirts of Thee Temple of Psychic Youth).
She's at her most gracious, congenial, informative in this lecture. So much warmer than her essays.
One really odd part is how transgressive source and execution can be: in the first example, you hear what could be Gregorian chants, revealed to be a Charles Manson composition. Genesis recites beautiful, beautiful words to melodic music in a PTV recording that was actually taken from transcripts or recordings of Jim Jones speaking during the mass suicides at Jonestown. While Genesis clearly is still impressed with the words, he can't help from commenting what a terrible evil man.
Just getting to the mid-90s...
This blows away any TED talk on the creative process, in music specifically, but generally as well.
I needed this today.
May Genesis continue to grow older and older!

@Zoops: I was never officially a member or TOPY, but I had some of their newsletters (probably still do until the next Storage Wars). I really got into them while they were trying to put out an album a week. I saw them at Club Dreamerz on North Ave in Chicago. The show went on until after 4AM.
I had picked up some Burroughs in college and during my year in NY, but it was the RE|Search issue that completely fascinated me with Burroughs (apart from his influence on/co-creation of the Beats), Brion Gysin, TG, and PTV.
I was fortunate to see Chris & Cosey (now Carter Tutti, with a new album: http://www.chrisandcosey.com/ ) and still have a 30+ year-old shirt in remarkable shape.
The TG show at Coachella was more than I could have expected.
@_enduser: Re S/he. Yeah, that's tricky. I actually first encountered that usage on Genesis' site w/r/t both Genesis & Lady Jaye. Their pandrogyny seems to have some essential differences from other gender identification. They saw it as a biological extension of the cut-up method. Genesis and Lady Jaye discuss it here:

In self-reference, Genesis currently uses the first person plural.

So cool! I'm a CCA alum and its nice to see them associating with some real freaks/iconoclasts, not just the usual "observe from on high but not really do any personal risk taking" artist types. In 00-04 most of the undergrad program was NOT READY for work about drugs by an active and unrepentant heroin user. It was really one of the defining moments of my life, that I chose to do that work anyway and I almost got kicked out for it on two separate occasions. It was really fucking hard but it made me a better person.
Seems like hopefully some things have changed since then.
