Since the demise of Opiophile, I've been splitting my time between this forum and the opiates section over at reddit.com. Does anyone else frequent that place? The more I post there, the less I can handle it. It has a very Bloolight feel to it. It could just be because I've spent so many years on Opiophile and, to me, Opiophile always seemed to have a much more intelligent user base than most drug-related forums which lead to more intelligent, deep conversations regarding drugs and this life we live.

Over the years, I've learned a ton from Opiophile not only about drugs but about doing thorough research before posting advice especially when you're discussing things such as dangerous narcotics that can potentially kill or harm someone. Spreading misinformation can be very dangerous and that's why I take harm reduction so seriously.

Over in the opiates section of Reddit, I find myself frequently butting heads with people because they post a lot of ignorant drivel and I go around in a futile attempt to help people by posting facts backed up by sources. Not everything that gets posted there is bad but it seems like quite a few posters constantly spread some bad misinformation. Has anyone else that has perused the opiates section over there gotten this feeling or am I the only one? By no means am I attempting to siphon users from this lovely community over to Reddit (quite the opposite, actually), I'm just curious if anyone here has had the same experience as I have over there.

Yes.  I did.  Have the same experience you did over at reddit.com/r/opiates.

Agree with the so much Blooolight feel.  Too frustrating for me to even start trying to debate/argue.

Frankly, it's only opiophile and this forum where I've found the user base (on all matters, not just re: opiates) to be intelligent and backed with data/sources.

Phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've all but given up arguing with the dunces over there. I almost feel bad though because I feel responsible to share the correct information with those that need and/or seek it but it's not worth dealing with the assholes that try and argue the point when you know they're incorrect.

Taste in sites is subjective. I appreciate other drug user sites and they all have their plus points, but personally,I feel the problem with other sites is scale-they have so many  members that forming relationships is difficult and so they lose any sense of community.

That's very true, nick. One thing I loved about Opiophile (and currently love about this place!) is the tight-knit sense of community it offers. However, with that opiates reddit section, it's not necessarily about community (some of the people there seem to know one another just as we do here at D&U/Opiophile) it's about the gross misinformation floating around and the wide acceptance of that misinformation.

I post at both bluelight and reddit. I find them both enjoyable for different reasons. Reddit has some excellent writers who's blogs are on point.(morbo,Tracey, and a few others.). They also have loose rules on sourcing meet ups and stuff so that can be useful. As for bluelight I've been posting there forever and it just feels like home even though the site has gone a little flat over the years.

they all have their merits, nick's response was right on

though some websites glorify drug use a lot more than others, with reddit probably being the worst.

they just seem like the youngest or most naive drug users online, glorifying it the hardest. and since its just a subforum for a much more popular website, it gets a shitload of play.

This sums up my experience there extremely well. A good portion of the people who post in /r/opiates seem to be extremely young and naive. Not all of them of course, but a good majority of them. Over the last week or so (I just recently discovered /r/opiates) I've been posting there much more frequently attempting to spread good HR information but a lot of it seems to fall on deaf ears. Oh well.

Once the phile went down permanently I immediately went and checked out reddit's opiates area, hoping I'd find phile members or at least an intelligent, supportive community.

I read two threads.Then I left.

Tracey from Black Tar Heroin (HBO doc) seems to be the only real HR promoting individual on the whole site.

I was wondering if it was THAT Tracey. I totally remember that doc and her in particular and heard she was on Reddit but I wasn't sure if she was the one posting in /r/opiates or not. That's pretty cool. I know how you feel, though. I was really underwhelmed by the topics of conversation on /r/opiates. As neighbor mentioned, it seems to be a collection of young, naive users. However, that's essentially why I stayed and started posting. I figured those kinds of people are the ones that need legitimate HR advice the most. There were quite a few people posting idiotic questions and stuff and the more I read, the more I felt inclined to help because they really, really need it. I get quite sick of it rather quick so I have to take long breaks from reading/posting but I can't stand when there's that much misinformation, especially regarding HR, being spread.

Ah, good old reddit. There are some cool, knowledgeable people there, don't get me wrong, but for the most part its a shit-show of epic proportions. I spend most of my time there laughing and cringeing... but in reality, there are lots of folks there that are in serious, dire, urgent need of some harm reduction advice...

On a side note, a really cool- but iñactive- sub is r/OurOverUsedVeins. It's geared towards IV heroin, and it has the best sub name ever, but its pretty much dead, unfortunately....

R/opiates does seem very juvenile in that a lot of members are still in that "love affair" stage of their addiction.  When you're still getting high after every single use.  The world / life seems great on opiates.  You've not gone through a ton of w/d yet.  You don't realize how anything bad could ever come from using.

A couple hard, cold-turkey w/ds will set them straight.  Or, their first time sucking dick for a bag (j/k).

There are some HR threads, but they're overshadowed by scoring stories, drug porn pics, etc.

Don't fight it Bhoris.  It will only frustrate you and drive you up a wall.  You can't help people who don't want it.  Hopefully they'll learn in time.

Precisely. It does seem like there are quite a few folks there who are in some serious need of legitimate HR advice which is why I thought I'd try and help out. Although, as Nark said, you can't help people who don't want it.

That is a BAD ASS subreddit name! I'll have to give it a browse. Maybe we can jump start it because it'd be a shame for a subreddit with that name to die out.

R/opiates does seem very juvenile in that a lot of members are still in that "love affair" stage of their addiction.  When you're still getting high after every single use.  The world / life seems great on opiates.  You've not gone through a ton of w/d yet.  You don't realize how anything bad could ever come from using.

So, so true. Trying to help some of the people over there has already frustrated me quite a bit, to be completely honest. You're totally right, you can't help people who don't want it. That's why I'm going to stick mostly to helping those who actually ask or seek out HR advice instead of posting HR advice on every single post that has horrible misinformation through out it, which is the majority of them it seems. I don't know why I care so much but it irks me that there is so much horrible information being spread around that place and people actually accepting that misinformation as fact.

I have tried to read through some of those inane posts, like "how do you smoke Percocet 30's [sic] the correct way?" But I can't see the story for all the SWIM's (specially on Bluelight).
