all management roles are currently temporary until we reach a member count of 300

we thank those who have shown interest and those who have already contributed ... good on you !

LATER: the elections are now pending - we had an influx of members.

Hey Chipper-i posted a question when i saw nicks thread about the elections - then saw it was in the temp mod subforum. All I can see on my screen right now is this thread on the Home page, so apologies if this is repetition

My questions:  can we include the option to nominate someone for mod/admin?  There are folks i think would be great. Of course, it would be made clear that there's no obligation to accept if elected. Also, will the voting be simply one vote per person & each vote counts the same (just like we do in elections here in the US)?

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.
Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

nick is currently exploring election models so i can't answer that yet.

the polling system is not very accommodating when it comes to things like elections.

but i hope so and expect so.

... just a word of advice for anyone keen to moderate: it's often a thankless and laborious job and if anything, it has a high potential to get members offside.

... and you have to stay current so there's a lot of reading about stuff that probably doesn't always interest you.

FWIW, Nick answered this in his thread (the temp mod one).  He said we ought not to nominate other people.  Being a mod / admin requires personal commitment, and the person has to exhibit that by choosing to put themselves forward.  So they need to nominate themselves.

He also said nominating other people would make the process more confusing and less efficient.

As for the voting re. number of votes, I'm assuming it will be one vote per person.

Transparency is necessary to ensure decent staff members get elected. Members need to know when staff are misbehaving, so members can be informed voters.

i modified the polling system to incorporate the use of a points system -- the mod went on today.

we will see if it can be of any use to us but just as an fyi, you may find a use for it yourself or any other pollsters.

please follow up on any suggestions as we are new to election voting-by-forum.
