Title: so my friend is having an EXTREMELY bad time ...
Post by: Chip on November 03, 2015, 09:14:01 AM
i have a friend whose stomach ruptured many years ago. this seemed to lead to a mental illness and has years of good ones and bad ones.

a major stress event now see's him in a psychiatric unit, mainly raving continuously and facing the prospect of his legs being amputated or if the toxins don't get sorted out, death.

a major stressor set his body on self-destruct.

his legs and stomach are massive and getting redder. he doesn't sleep. he is in severe pain but ignores it. it looks gangrenous. all his major organs are impacted and he's hooked up to a heart monitor and sedated, yet ...

i saw this guy go from reasonable-well to now, near death ... in a week or two.

i pray that he pulls through.

fuck.

edit: he's on Methadone and recently lost his pot supply, too.

Aw, chipper, I'm very sorry that your friend is in such a bad state...it must be heart-wrenching to see his health rapidly decline :(

Very scary to know he went from doing ok to doing real bad in such a short time too.

I don't know what to say except that you'll make his last days somewhat better just being the friend you have always been to him. I say, carry on my wayward son ...

Very sad, my thoughts are with your buddy and you

fucked up, totally.

one sees the mind-body interplay ... it's hard to imagine a major attack of gangrene on top of all this, hence the amputation risk.

as heavy as it gets.

i didn't even want to report it because it is very personal but it's something so poignant . . it effects another close friend and he wouldn't appreciate the negative publicity so i won't say much more, don't want to inflict more pain for him, either.

i'll get back to you if the situation improves but at this exact point in time, it's worsening.

If anyone of my friends or even associates came into contact with me and was so severely fucked up that they've basically given up Im the type of guy(and some may disagree with this totally) that maybe one would speak to family or such and get him evaluated for suicidal tendences(great band btw).

I was put into a psych ward for evaluation because I just wanted to give up, shit turned me around real quick. They'll keep your ass there if you dont shape up, and they'll force treatment on you if you disagree.

So his stomach area is visabilly large, red on the outside and hes in severe pain(keeping in mind hes already had previous GI issues), and has other shit going on, you cant convince your buddy to get checked out?

I dont know how it is down under, but if your fucked up that bad, your generally treated better by hospital staff despite any prior transgressions.

he is very hard to categorize - his brain has gone away with the toxicity in his body ... he needs antibiotics and vitamin drips ... he isn't acting out ... i know this guy. his psychiatric condition is unknown ... he's a tough case.

he's a very sick man in his late 50's. only a hospital can handle him.

I should clarify what I said, I was forcefully brought in for a psych evaluation and I was put in the critical care unit, and seen by a psych doctor aswell as every other specialist and kept under direct supervision until I was no longer a threat(by giving up) to myself.

I require iv hydration, medication, vitamins, etc. It truly sucks.

If you have a will, there will always be a way though. If you don't want to take care of yourself(or cant due to some underlying problem) you will always get worse. Never better.

What causes one's stomach to rupture ? What was the underlying illness ?

What causes one's stomach to rupture ? What was the underlying illness ?

y'know, that's the SAME question i asked and he said 'think of a [colon] water hose that's turned on but twisted and then it eventually ruptures' - i have seen one only just recently burst.

it went down inside an ambulance ... i believe there was quite a mess to clean up.

the funny thing was that his dad said to him that if he keeps using then he'll burst [from all the drugs] ... and he did !

freaky.

OMG Chipper that sounds awful.  I'm so sorry.  I can't imagine how horrible it would be to have a severe psych illness on top of the rest of it.  :(  I'll send some prayers and ++ vibes his way.

But I do have a question too...so it was actually his colon that ruptured, not his stomach??

not sure exactly about the rupture point.

i saw him today and he was angry that i walked his partner up (dude's got a heavy load) as he was struggling from exhaustion.

so i left before it got worse, he looked better.

Hi, I just read your post and am sorry to hear that. Seeing someone in pain and you can't do anything for them is just the worst. I hope everything will be OK. ox

Hey Chipper,
good news.
Don't let him think it's over: be sure he gets the  care he needs.
He's lucky to have a friend like you.

what's even better is that our mutual friend (whom i am closer too by far) is an ex-clinical psychologist and has been able to get our not-so-sick-anymore buddy OUT for 2 hours a day.

the ward is like a prison and isolated from the real world ... the patients MUST suffer cabin fever so my good buddy made sure that he took him home during the walk, too.

the love i have seen flow between these gay friends of mine makes me take gay marriage seriously (yet, THEY don't, ha !) ... until you witness it for yourself, you don't really get to make a proper call.

it was the gays that kindly let me deep into their party subculture and i danced my way into their hearts ... the fun i have had can't fit into words easily. it's about expression, pride, joy, drugs (for me, anyway) and acceptance ... i also call it the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance)

I used to go out partying with my gay buddy all the time!! I've got some of the hottest women ever while out with those boys. Gay dudes always party with amazing chics.

Glad your buddy is doin so well chip, glad there was a positive outcome

i remember you suggesting that he fight for his health back and he did ... IV vitamins, IV antibiotics and Oral anti-psychotic medications were all used on him.

you were quite optimistic about it and you were right.

a far better outcome than i anticipated.

All you need is some great people on your side and so long as you want to recover you generally will.

I was at a real bad point a year ago, just wanted to give up, it was for the best at the time.

I have a different outlook on life these days tho. I hope your buddy doesn't slip back into all the shit once he's outta the hospital.

Perhaps he should go into a rehab (not drug rehab) a medical place with nurse supervision to make sure he's kept on the right track, medication management etc.

It's not good on the soul being kept under lock and key. I was in a medical rehab for six weeks after my so called medical intervention. Helped me out alot, especially seeing all those who truly couldn't care for themselves because they did give up when they really shouldn't have.

the deal is that he will now NOT STOP the PSYCH. MEDS this time and GET PROPER, restorative and regenerative SLEEP, every night ...

i think that is the best deal we can negotiate.
