FUCK it's about time they make a smart move like this. I'll probvably be dead before we see this in the united states of corruption but it's a nice step in the right direction.

It's clear "the war on drugs" has failed miserably, MISERABLY, when you can go to any ghetto and buy crack, heroin and whatever else suits you, in any major city in the US, it's apparent the WoD failed. Let's step back and take a harm reduction approach, let's be more like Portugal, Switzerland, etc.

This is awesome, definitely a huge step in the right direction!!!  I wish I had Canadian citizenship!!  My grandmother is from Canada and her children all had an easy opportunity to get citizenship.  My uncle did it and he has dual citizenship, but unfortunately my mother didn't do it so it wouldn't be any easier for me to obtain citizenship than anyone else.  Oh well.

This is awesome, I hope that it's taken seriously and that they actually start getting people treatment, and that they don't force doctors and patients to jump through hoops to get it. I hope the rest of the world takes notice especially here in the US.... @Z your Canadian right? Wanna adopt me? Is gay marriage legal there and can I attain citizenship through marriage? If so we could always just get married ;).

This is awesome! I love to see progress!!  I wonder how exactly it works though.  Do they give you enough so you can get high or do they give you just enough to get off sick? I wonder if you can eventually earn take outs.  It would seem that visiting the clinic multiple times a day would not allow someone to be employed,or go to school or even have time alone to think and take a shit!  Is anyone familiar with how these programs work?

@nick would be able to tell you since he was scripted diamorphine for years.

I did read somewhere that doses of 500 mg. start feeling you're taking Methadone but I'm not sure.

I also asked Nick if he got stoned still and he said that you get maybe a couple of minutes of bliss then you rapidly normalise.

It's not the great panacea that you imagine it to be and if it were me then I'd still like to keep some Methadone handy for the times I'd want a break from continually going in to get on.

But the great thing about it is that it gives the addict what they truly *think* they want and only then can they move onto the next phase which may even be sobriety.

When you are perpetually craving and hustling, no work can be done on yourself and this is the best way to move forward.

Your tolerance is always going to adjust to the point where you can't get much more euphoria and one day your veins will be all gone too.

I'd love to hear what nick has to say about this.

Some European countries still do this as well right? Or have they all switched over to methadone?

Some do. If I'm not mistaked it still exists in the UK but you have to be grandfathered in. Still exists in the Netherlands.

It is really only to allow people who were treated in the study to continue receiving it.  Fucking vice click bait.  Then again, maybe I'm wrong.  I'll ask my doc.  He helped with the Montreal portion of shalom or whatever it was called.

Canada's move to prescribe heroin treatment is a huge step forward.
I believe only about 120 people are authorized for treatment at this time and must attend at least 3 times a day.

If this program is successful, maybe then we will see these participants get take homes.
I would honestly prefer this type of program than buying it off the streets.
You have to go in 3 times a day, but it beats not being able to cop at all and not knowing what you're getting as well.
