Title: Hello Ladies
Post by: candy on June 29, 2015, 01:38:51 PM
I wanted to add a place where the women of this site could come and share their experiences, concerns, feelings, and get support.
If you have a specific problem you want to share privately, please feel free to email me anytime.

Of course we are not opposed to any men who would like to join the conversation, but please remember to be kind and considerate of the ladies here.
Many times women with addiction face different issues that men do and I wanted to make sure that we are supportive and give good information to anyone in need.

I hope you will all be patient as this is a work in progress and I would welcome any ideas!

So glad to have you here.
This is still a work in progress, so have some patience and more information
will be added.
The admin added this section for me as I thought it would be great to have a place where women could discuss
issues that are related to women's emotional and physical health without judgment.

I realize the that anyone can read and respond to our posts and that is OK.
We welcome information from anyone, but for the women dealing with addiction or other issues, this
will be the place to come and discuss them with other women who are dealing with the same problems or concerns.

Hopefully our user base of women will increase...

Any suggestions are welcomed and remember that this is your place to come and feel safe and secure and maybe help someone else.
Not just this sub-forum, but the entire site is for members to use and we want an open feel here.
Everyone matters!

Thank you for the kind words ladies.
I wanted there to be a place for the women on this site to have for info, support, and friendship.

We all know as women face different obstacles when dealing with addiction.

So, this is your site and I encourage all the ladies here to post anything they want to discuss.
We are a powerful force and together, supporting one another, we are that much stronger.

Dear Candy,
Thank you so much for starting this thread! I am right at "that point" in my life where I can use all the advice I can get!
So much going on in my life right now. Won't vomit it all up right now though. I'll spare you all for a while. =0)

One question(for now)...is it normal to be 51 and still have a regular menstrual cycle? Before this age (or about the last two years), I have NEVER had a regular period. And now I can count on it like a paycheck! LOL!  However, I have absolutely no sex drive what-so-ever.

Any input on this?

love,

Ponderous...hmm. I'm kinda similar in the non regular cycle but I do have healthy sex drive. My period is totally unpredictable and I know it's not right. I have to get to the obgyn bits been over a year and I'm usually on top of getting that appointment taken care of.

Just a warning, I'm going way too TMI on this but let it be known...

since starting PST I have very irregular periods, like maybe once every 2 or 3 months. I'm really glad I'm gay otherwise I would keep freaking out about being preggers. Basically, once I got on a steady stable dosage of opiates, bye bye regularity.

also, once I stopped doing Heroin, my sex drive completely collapsed. Its to the point where I'm thinking about trying some type of female viagra. It doesn't help that I have endometriosis and sex can often times be uncomfortable. I'm sure my period issues could also be tied to the endo...but I don't think so since every time I get a weaker batch of seeds than I had before my period starts as soon as I hit wd.

SO, another thing. Even if I want to have sex...I cannot get wet. I know it effects my partners self esteem and makes her feel inadequate but I think she understands...we've talked about it a lot. other than less opiates/lube (no one wants to eat out a mouth full of lube) does anyone have any suggestions?

if anyone has any pointers or just wants to commiserate, holler at your girl.

FWIW I had very regular periods when I was 51... and then about a year later they stopped completely and never returned.  And I don't have much of a sex drive either ... so I think both the regular cycles in your early 50s AND the lack of sex drive are within the range of "normal".

Hey QoD,
Yes it is normal. I am 46 and my periods were very irregular for a few years as well, and now they are every 30 days.
My Mom went into menopause very young, about your age, but she was having hot flashes and just a barrage of other symptoms.
Are you having any of the typical symptoms of menopause?

I think that our periods start to change when we reach the age you and I are at and maybe it is the very beginning of menopause, although it seems strange we both went back to regular monyhly periods.

I would just take note of it. Do you get regular well- Woman check-ups?
You may want to mention it to your doctor if you see one for check-ups.

It is so important for all women to try and get a well-woman checkup, but we will leave that for a different post.
A lower sex drive could be an indication that your hormones are off, which could be the start of pre- menopause. It is not uncommon for our libido to take a dive at this point in our lives.
I have been hormy as hell the last month.

Maybe try some toys or fun lubes to get the fires burning if you are sexually active.
I am not sure if you are in a relationship or not.
I found pot loosens  me up and I am stress free.

Maybe get your hormone levels checked if possible.
If someone suggested that already, I apologize.

I apologize for any typos, on my phone and a bit stoned.
Hope that helps.

As others have said, this is a great thread.

I just want to thank you ladies, whom I also consider friends, many thanks for the really sweet comments
About this part of the site.

It was important that we can discuss not only how are lives are impacted by our addiction, but that as women dealing with addiction or recovery, we do have special needs.
I wanted to do this at opiophile, but I am actually glad I get to do it here.

And if you have something you want to discuss privately, that is fine to. Just if you have no one else to talk with. I can be a supportive ear.

I am so happy you guys are happy with this part of the forum.

If you email me and  I don't respond right Way, just message me here and let me know.

Enjoy!
Candy ~

I want to add my thanks to Candy for this section too. Its great to be able to ask about 'girl stuff'!

Hey Junkette - regarding being "dry", What Candy said :
"Maybe get your hormone levels checked if possible."

If you can, be sure to get *all* the levels especially fsh, t3 t4 etc b/c they all matter & it can be another imbalance causing your problems vs peri menopause. For me though, it was indeed that--had medical menopause (the out of the blue sudden kind). I was so dry it hurt to wipe after urinating.  I was prescribed a compounding cream of progesterone and testosterone (use it just like monistat cream a couple times a week). I'm sorry you're dealing with that, its no joke to be that kind of painfully dry!

If money is an issue/you can't get labwork done right now, do you have a compounding pharmacy nearby?  The pharmacists at mine are incredibly helpful, and often have herbal treatments that really do work.

There's also a book called menopause for Dummies which gave me a ton of information not mentioned by my (male) doctor that you might find helpful.  Good luck & I hope you feel more comfortable soon!

I really am glad you guys are enjoying this part of the site as I said before.

I wanted to add that in the last year I too have noticed I am "dry", even when I am very aroused.
My man is very patient and we use a lot of different fun things to help, but it is just horrible to feel that way all of a sudden.
It can take you from excited to nothing in no time flat.

I do have thyroid problems and I am on medication, but it has not made a difference. Maybe something per-menopausal?

I also have interstitial cystitis, a problem with that is associated with a painful bladder, the need to urinate all the time, and pelvic pain.
It is a real bitch to have. It has really changed my life. Urinating up to 20 + times a day. Hard to leave the house. I hate using public bathrooms. Reminds me of my days of using and I am kinda freaky when it comes to germs. I am sure many of you have seen what a women's bathroom can look like. How can women be so damn gross? I guess that is another topic.
I have to be very careful after sex too, because I tend to get a bladder infection after sex, even if I pee right after.

Getting old is not fun, but I am going to make the best of it!

Hey, Junkette! So sorry to hear you are stuggling with endometriosis. I had a complete hysterectomy (uterus, ovaries and cervix) at 27 (I'm 42 now) due to severe endometriosis.  I had implants on my bladder, bowels (had 14 inches removed due to the endo stranggling it....yuck and ouch!) and a huge endometrioma on my right kidney.  That shit can travel!

Anyway, the pain from it is horrible and it made sex VERY painful.  Even after the hysterectomy, I had pain due to dryness.  I was not able to be on hormone replacement because estrogen feeds the disease...so dryness it is!!!!  I can be really aroused and into it, but my vagina will still be as dry as the Sahara.  I know it is really frustrating and my husband felt that it was him putting in a sub-par performance that was responsible.  Not the case of course, but it is a frustrating symptom to deal with.

I don't know if you are on any treatments, but before my surgery and also after, I did quite a few cycles of Lupron...which also causes dryness.

Even after all these years I still cringe a little right before intercourse in anticipation of pain.  It just goes to show you how painful endo is if almost 20 years later I still have such a visceral reaction!

Sorry this got so long.  I am sorry you are suffering with the endo.  When you go for your next checkup, ask if the doctor can recommend anything for you.  Totally frustrating!!!!

When my GFs ask me to buy tampons for them, I do without question.

Although, I purchase the largest size tampons available.

I guess the "joke" is eventually on me......: (I can't feel anything!!)

My bf buys me tampons when I need him to.
He takes a picture of the box with his phone so he knows exactly what I need.
He used to call me from the drug store after pacing up and down the aisle trying to remember what I told him to get.
Poor guy. Just trying to be helpful by making sure I don't leak!

There is nothing worse that having your period and not having the adequate protection you are going to need.
