ADD BUDDIES: go to their Profile and click on [Add To Buddy List]
EDIT & BLOCK: Profile > Modify Profile > Buddies/Ignore List > Edit Ignore List or Edit Buddies
-
I decided to try the Ignore function, and those who extol its virtues are 100% right!
You DO see when those on your ignore list post, but you don't see the post.
Unless you want to! (You CAN click "Read Post" and see it anyway.)
Thing is, when I wanted to find out how to implement this, I noticed something in Chipper's OP:
To add a buddy: go to their profile and click "Add to buddies list."
Another member and I have been trying to figure out why some people show up on our list and others don't.
(We each clicked "Add to buddy list" from the other's Avatar, but it didn't work.)
If anyone else was having issues, maybe this will help.

that function to ADD is faulty but it will remove buddies.
I have yet to remove it which may be tricky.
so remove it via that option but add buddies via the Profile instead.
apologies.
-
better yet, the software mod (Buddies Block) is deactivated to avoid confusion as i can't uninstall it.
add buddies via the Profile mini icon instead.

Can someone explain to me the purpose or uses for having "buddies" in the first place?

It allows you to see their email if it's private... that's the only real use I know of.

Roger that, thanks.

It's also a way of recognizing your onboard friends.
If you choose to make your profile more private, it's necessary for your friends to be labeled as buddies. Otherwise non-buddy friends, as well as most everyone else, won't be able to view your extended profile, post comments / VMs, etc.

in addition to what nark says, there are many tasks that allow filering by buddies but you have to configure them, maybe when you're a bit more confident in getting around the menus.
