Title: The Interventionist, By Joani Gammill
Post by: Daughter of Dionysus on December 05, 2015, 03:46:08 AM
Skramme,IIRC you started a thread
About "What are You Reading"
So if this post steps on your toes
So to speak
I sincerely apologize

My Mom gave me this book

She wasn't like pushing it on me
Which I'm sure of for a few reasons
1) Shes just that kind of Mom.
B) She doesn't have too much of a problem with my drug use. As long as I'm NEVER fucked around my nieces. Which is more than fine with me

Anyway...
Long story.
I was wondering if anyone has read this?
What you thought of it?

I'm just know beginning it
So far I've gathered
The authors husband tricked her
Into going on The Dr. Phil Show
For an intervention

And now she's an interventionist
And credits Dr. Phil for "saving her life"

The whole Dr. PHIL thing is what turns me off to the whole thing

Do y'all think I should continue?
I mean I'm not even past the prologue

Just in case
It isn't clear
The title & author & name of the book
Are in the title of the the thread

Anyone who credit "Dr" Phil with doing anything other than lining his own pockets is basic as fuck.

All dr Phil is good at is humiliating you in front of a national audience

That's kind of an odd question to ask. Should you continue? It'd probably have been easier to spend 20 minutes reading the first few chapters and make the decision of whether or not it's worth finishing. Personally, I think in this case, it'd be easy to 'judge a book by its cover' and see that's it's bullshit rehab industry propaganda (with a Dr Phil endorsement no less), and not worth the paper it's printed on. But that's just my opinion, some people lap that shit up.

If my memory serves me correctly...she was a nurse in a drug rehab facility and would shoot anything she could get her hands on...when she was home she would allow her dog to lick the blood off her arms after said shot...

Finish for the ''LULZ".  ;)

On the subject of moronic drug books. My mom convinced me to read ''Beautiful Boy'' by David Sheff. She claims it helped her understand my behavior. Yeah that book scared the shit out of me. He is totally clueless about what it feels like to have an addiction. By the end of the book I felt like the best thing his son could have done is cut off ties with his father the author.

After I finished the book I got my mom to read the Huffington Post expose "Dying to be free". Its not a book but my moms not a reader really so I knew she could get through it. I felt like that article shed light on my feelings and experience pretty well for a news piece. Plus at the time she was bugging me to go back to rehab. I think it really helped her accept that methadone was a good option for where I am in life.

I really wanted to read it
So that my mother and I
Would have something to connect with

But I'm struggling with it
For obvious reasons

FTR
I hated "A Beautiful Boy"
And "Tweaker" by the son
