"Between 2006 and 2013, he said, there were almost 20,000 visits to hospital emergency rooms connected to “opioid toxicity” and more than 10,000 admissions to hospital — an increase of almost 25 per cent during that time period."

I am all for injection sites. Have worked in one and would happily do so again. But Injection sites will not solve this problem alone. The health staff at hospitals, outpatient facilities etc must also be familiar with harm reduction as a method. Know the importance of sufficient pain management for opiod tolerant patients and even more so; act upon it.

That was a good one!  Made me actually giggle  8)

It's crazy how backward we are in the US.  Why the fuck is it next to impossible to buy needles at a pharmacy?  I live in a major metro area so we have several needle exchanges, but they have wonky hours.  It's just kind of starting here in MN where needle exchanges are starting to push people to learn to use narcan and are giving it out.  I myself have been saved one time by friends who had narcan in their house.  I've also been given narcan numerous other times by paramedics, firemen, ER dr's.

I can't say I see a "safe injection site" happening here in the US for a LONG time.  It's really too bad.  I've had way too many loved ones OD.

Seattle is set to open two safe-consumption sites.
Things are certainly not moving fast enough and I doubt with this new administration in the White House that we will see any further progress, especially on a federal level.
