Title: When to stop done
Post by: Objection on September 10, 2016, 12:59:24 PM
It has been quite a while cince i've been here. Some of you may recall I had a stroke in aug last year..and I'm still on hospice.
Currently I take 90g of done a day and am able to take 2 30mg(total 60mgs) of morphine every 2 hours for breakthru pain.

Except I feel nothing with the morphine. I understand the done is blocking the morphine. How long should I stop the done in order to play with the morphine?

you can't just simply stop the 'done because you will be in withdrawals.

90 mg. is HEAPS and you need to get down to about 10 mg. before you will feel your breakthrough meds.

what you can do is taper down slowly by jumping down by 10 mg/week for 4 weeks, then by 5 mg/week for 6 weeks, then by 2.5 mp/week for 6 weeks etc. until you hit 10 mg. and only then they may just start working for you.

this is just a very basic taper regimen and often isn't that simple but you should get the idea.

a rule of thumb i use is that even just 20 mg. of 'done is enough to completely negate the effects of your 60 mg. Morphine.

Methadone doesn't "block" but rather, it monopolises your receptors so the Morph doesn't get a chance to take effect.

You don't mean 90 is heaps for mmt? I'm on 135 and I feel that it's just the right amount. I do agree it is heaps to break through though.

What's "heaps" to one.... Is "cheaps" to another.

I've noticed that with 'Done, dosages are HIGHLY personal.

Like you Thoms, when I very first started going to MMT seriously (not just dropping in and out) I found myself up there @ 130mg within the exact time frame that it would take to reach that dosage with 10mg a week jumps.

Then, some shit happened with my ins. & I was forced into a feetox that left me at 90mg when I finally got that shit squared away.

It left me only slightly miserable for a week or so... Then I got used to the 90mg.

I also believe that seasonal changes (especially in a desert climate, with the extreme heat in the summer) speeds up my metabolism of the damn shit.

I'm wrecked by morning pain wise... I literally lay there not even wanting to move a single muscle. Like, I could just fuckin stay here for the duration.

But I wont feel really bad wd's until I'm at least 2 days in... And this is one of the MAJOR reasons I miss the old tyme days of Subs when I partook in them. Two days into wd from subs and you can totally push off and catch a great nod.

The ONLY thing that is gonna touch that MD wd... Is more fuckin MD. That, or a mallet over the dome piece.

Ime, I've gotta be on suicide watch misery status (roughly 2 weeks in) before H, M, Oxy, HM, etc etc etc is even gonna make an impact on my acute status.

I've been forced off before on the streets, and muscling the shit outta M and H kinda kept the RLS and maddening insomnia away.... But I was still a wet noodle for quite some time.

I dont know how I got off on this tangent... Sorry if I'm derailing the shit outs this thread.

But yeah man.... Fuckin love to hate my MD.

I think it's different for everyone, but once I got down to around 60ish mg a day it wasn't a blocking dose for me anymore. I mean, I wasn't doing H or anything, but I was taking oxys for breakthrough pain and it broke through the done just fine. I didn't have to take monster doses of it either.

DH, that surprises me because I can't feel 60 mg M on even 20 mg 'done.

It must be my mileage or else I have no idea.

The OP should then find their own threshold as it is so subjective.

So, to clarify I wasn't trying to get wasted or anything, but I could certainly feel them & they helped a ton with pain. I also wasn't taking them every day, if I had been I'm sure it would've been different. My highest dose on MMT was 155mg a day & when I was up around 90+ mg it didn't matter how much I took, I may as well have been taking an aspirin. But yeah, once I got down to about 60 I could definitely feel the effects of short acting opis like oxycodone.
