Why would you bother with something like this unless troubleshooting the markup?

Seems pointless to me, and you know this information is trivially spoofed, right?

it's only temporary, i was just interested in seeing what people use BUT only in the short term. i can turn it off via Permissions for Regular users and still keep the mod on ... having said that, should i be worried AND what is the site's exposure ?

I don't have any reason to think that you should be worried about anything in particular.

Like I've said a couple times: my admin practices (on a platform like this where uptime is key) are to run third party code very lightly and sparingly -- I don't know anything about where you get these plugins, who writes them and how well they're debugged before they're packaged and released; but I'm very much a minimalist in this respect.

While working as an admin, 3rd party code was basically the bane of my existence and responsible for about %94 of my problems. The systems themselves and the server code they run is usually quite a bit to manage in itself. Start adding in 3rd party apps that have dependencies and questionable quality-control, and it's a matter of time before you're spending more time fucking with BS code than with the system itself.

I'm probably just jaded cos I'm pretty burnt-out on being an admin, even though I didn't really do it very long. But I did learn a few things; and of of those things is: minimalism is a good thing, for many reasons. :)

It's your box. Really as long as your backup system is solid, fuckit, start tweaking the kernel code for all I care, aside from loss of access to the site..

well, i have been changing the SMF code base only. as long as i can undo the changes that i want to.

the unmodified system wouldn't be too satisfying for everyone.

the system is quite robust, so far anyway. everything gets tested for a while.

OK, i won't worry then 8) unless feels wrong.

if anyone thinks that it's something that one would keep private, I can disable it.
