Philippines war on drugs and crime intensifies

At least 26 people died overnight in police operations in Manila, in a second night of heavy bloodshed this week that appears to be an intensification of Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte's fierce war on drugs and crime.

The killings across Manila followed 32 deaths in near-simultaneous police raids on Monday night in Bulacan province, which borders the capital. Together, they mark the deadliest period of a drugs-focused crackdown that has killed thousands of Filipinos, and caused international alarm, since Duterte took office over a year ago.

Colonel Erwin Margarejo, spokesman for Manila police, described the raids that started late on Wednesday in Manila as "one-time, big-time" operations, the same term used by police in Bulacan, who said the victims died because they chose to put up a fight.

"This is one-time, big-time operations, so it is not focused only on drugs; we are operating also against other street crimes, like robbery, but these people could also be under the influence of drugs," Margarejo said.

I was thinking to myself when I read the headline "war on drugs AND CRIME"

Which I found weird.

I guess they ran out of drug addicts to kill so they are killing thieves now, next it'll be petty criminals.  My question is when do they kill the murderers?

When does the UN step in and stop them? I mean, jesus.

the behaviour that you walk past is the behaviour that you condone.

either the rest of the world doesn't care or else they are silently eating popcorn and wondering if this mad scheme might actually work.

it really is drug-user-genocide.

it certainly makes me feel hated to some degree.

where's Trump on this one ?

THE ONLY LINKS BETWEEN DRUGS AND CRIME ARE THE CONTRIVED ONES - THE ILLEGALITY, CONTROL IN THE WRONG HANDS, THE HUGE MONEY TO BE MADE.

Yes, drugs can be used to subdue, kill/poison, incapacitate etc but so can common household items.

This is blatantly a case of playing the player and not the ball !

I literally hate this piece of shit. He is such a self righteous self satisfied moron. I really hope he is forced to watch his family face a brutal death and then suffer a slow one himself. I hate to bring his family into it but I really hate him that much.
