Accu Vein, veiin illumination technique
« on: September 25, 2015, 10:36:58 PM »

Quote
The Accu Vein uses a two-axis optical scanner to sweep an IR laser over a patient’s skin, maximizing the contrast between veins and other tissues. At the same time, the device records the reflected light using photodiodes tuned to the IR laser’s wavelength. The laser beam illuminates one spot at a time, generating data from a full image over the course of one field. Then, after information about the vein is extracted using digital signal processing, the processed image is reprojected onto the skin using a visible laser. Aligned with the data_acquired in the infrared range, the image provides the practitioner with direct and immediate feedback for needle placements.

I wish I had this if I wanted to be an IV user but I'm glad my veins roll and are tiny and I can't find them. I don't think I want to go down that route. But it would be cool to own this and be able to do IV stuff. I just want this in any hospital, doctor or clinic I go to so I don't get poked 20 times. When I was in the hospital it was 3 in the morning, Aliens just came on AMC and I wanted to watch it and they needed to put a new IV in. 3 nurses came in and poked me at least 50 times if not more and on both arms at the same time and were digging trying to find my vein. They finally found one after about an hour. Right when the Aliens started attacking in the movie is when they found one. God that was hell. So this would come in great for me.

The technology involved with accu-vein is becoming cheaper and cheaper.Hopefully,it will soon be viable to own one privately.

There's a ghetto version involving a high powered torch and a piece of red translucent plastic(there used to be an instructions clip on youtube) but I've not tried this and can't vouch for its efficacy.

U talking about this thing? I played with one not too long ago, only works if u have decent pipes nto too deep in tho

If you've ever seen a pic on the anatomy of veins you'd be able to draw lines on yoursefl of where they should be, the second pic is just below the crook in my left elbow.

Edit: I just saw the original post, it NO WAY IN HELL works that well.

I bought a Veinlite EMS a few months ago. It uses red and orange LEDs that shine down thru your skin and makes veins show up like black lines. There is a small learning curve to it but not too much. It has helped me to find ones that I would'nt have found otherwise so I guess its worth the $170 I paid.

However it does not penetrate the flesh as deep as this Accu Vein does. The Accu Vein goes down 10mm while the Veinlite just shows the shallow ones. Thats probably one of the reasons why the Accu Vein is so much more expensive.

Nick, I tried to make one of the ghetto ones using the YouTube video, but I had no success with it. "But there's no success like failure!"
