Phenobarbital in detox !!?
« on: September 24, 2017, 05:06:07 AM »
So I just got out of detox. The intake lady doing my interview over the phone helped me out by informing me that my insurance wouldn't cover opiate detox cuz it's not life threatening but if I was also doing Benzos or alcohol they would cover it. So I said I was also addicted to xanax.

When I got there they gave me a shot of Ativan which was nice, but from what I hear not uncommon, but they used phenobarbital to detox me from xanax. I've never had barbiturates before other than butalbital which is like the weakest one ever. I thought barbiturates were practically non existent and I was super excited when I heard they were giving me them. They were pretty sweet. I couldn't really tell the difference between them and benzos but I didn't get any of the nausea and sick feeling that I usually get from benzos especially Valium.

I know it's not like the best barbiturates from back in the day such as Seconal or Nembutal or tuinal but it was pretty good. I was so excited to be getting something so seemingly rare and it really was nice. Lasted a long ass time too as it's a long acting barbiturate.

Has anyone else ever gotten barbiturates in detox ? Anyone ever get any barbiturates recently any other way?  And has anyone ever had Seconal or Nembutal or any of the really strong short acting ones that used to be common but now are really rare?  Are they really as great as they're made out to be? I definitely preferred the phenobarbital over most benzos except for MAYBE xanax.

I had a little Tuinal and it taught me a few lessons:

don't do anything that requires skills like driving, operating machinery etc.

dont do anything unsupervised or important.

you probably won't remember it.

they are heavy.

I’d like to try those in a safe setting just to compare them to strong benzos and see if I could tell the difference. I don’t think I’ll ever get to tho. They don’t make tuinal anymore and Seconal is available technically but idk what doctor would ever prescribe them. And i read that they are only available name brand despite being really old and are like 1 or 2 thousand dollars to fill a normal amount that you would be prescribed. M

Just looked it up. Valeant Pharmaceuticals just bought the rights to them in 2015 and the price for 100 pills is 3000$ holy shit lol

Oh wow that is interesting.  So you were decided from
Benzos with phenobarbital as well.  Lol sounds like you were basically asking the same question as I was.  Yeah I definitely got some great sleep from them. I’m not sure what the dosage they gave me was but it started with 3 little white pills at a time and went down from there. Personally I liked them more than most benzos. I get a weird light nausea from most benzos that I did t get from the phenobarbital.

I didn't write that, that was a guy who had a smart doctor.

it's also handy for GBL/GHB, Gabapentinoid, alcohol etc. withdrawal.

Barbiturates earned a scary reputation for DEATH by overdose AND DEATH by withdrawal. Now that is a BAD recreational option so out they went and in came Benzos with their life-saving LD50.

... but in a medically supervised short stint, they can unhook you from most, if not ALL sedatives/depressants/opiates/etc. (EXCEPT long term benzo use) in comfort and with no memory too.

Barbs are no fun and so old tek these days however they're a great retro tool and I believe they are still invaluable as a treatment modality.

Long term (20 years) Benzo tapering should take months if not a year or two.

My bad chipper for thinking you wrote that. All very interesting and good info tho. You really do have a wealth of knowledge and are very helpful. I wonder why barbiturates are so deadly when you od on them and benzos aren’t since they both have the same effect. I think I read somewhere a long time ago that benzos increase the frequency of some body or brain function while barbiturates increase the duration of that function. I think it was something to do with GABA but I don’t remember for sure.

remember that Nembutal is the euthanasia drug of choice ... on high doses, one Barb caused typical shock syndrome (apnea, circulatory collapse, respiratory arrest, and death) when taken between 2-10 grams.

I found that by searching, not my own words.

thanks for that but it's an interest of mine and I like doing the research.

people were prescribed large doses and they forgot they they had taken then so they redosed etc.

I've had the phenobarb detox a few times. I had a seizure in rehab, was sent to the hospital, tbh the memory of that and everything for the rest of my stay is fuzzy because whatever they gave me was strong.
I relapsed and went back to the same detox like 2 times afterwards and because of what happened there before, they gave me the phobarbital and it had me loopy the first couple doses each time.
Started with 9 small pills and it went down from there.
They liked to use old school stuff there...thorazine, llibrium, phenobarb, etc.
The phenobarbital was fairly pleasant actually. It was kind of like a drunk feeling but not sloppy.
Buzzed. Relaxed. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't feeling thoroughly awful.
They went heavy on the psych meds but it was hard to get comfort meds for nausea and stuff
Which meant i felt kinda drooly and slow but still very sick.
