No but that sounds awful.

Have you seen a Dr? Did they have insights? Any Treatments?

Hey Chipper!  Sorry to hear about your painful mouth!  Are you talking about canker sores?

If they are painful, it is ok to use orajel or other product that has benzocaine in it.  DO NOT use Ambesol!!  It has alcohol and camphor in it and it is actually damaging to the healing tissues.  It will delay healing time by a substantial amount.  Again, Orajel is fine.  It is numbing and doesn't have the harsher ingredients that are incompatible with healing.

Eating yogurt with all those live active yogurt cultures can only help.  It takes a while before you will notice a difference in the amount of sores or the time between outbreaks, so don't get discouraged!!  You can also get them in tablet form at any health food place, GNC or anywhere that sells vitamins.

For those that really suffer, in my office we prescribe a rinse that contains Maalox, Carafate and viscous lidocaine.  It helps with symptoms and healing.  The dentist I work for calls it the FCS rinse (Fucking Canker Sores Rinse!) Viscous lidocaine is a prescription in the states, but may not be where you are.  Not every dentist adds the carafate component, but it is a very useful medication for healing ulcers, both gastric and oral.

There is nothing worse than biting down on those fuckers!!!  It brings tears to my eyes!!!  Try to avoid the area if at all possible.  Every time you bite it or jab it, more healing time will be heaped upon it.

Also, smoking really can irritate the mucous membranes and will also delay the healing of mouth sores.

Now, if you weren't refering to canker sores, ignore all of the above! lol!  Hope you are quickly on the mend!!

as long as it's not cancerous. i worry that the smokes will be the death of me.

I'm guessing the e-cig didn't work out for you?

too few options that I can afford but I will be revisiting them when they're more abundant.

I still like the idea.

I got these for awhile when my sleep apnea was still untreated: I would spend all night breathing out of my mouth (so it dried out) and the movement when I would reflexively gasp for air caused irritation from my teeth and ulcers on my tongue (didnt realize it was that until I stopped getting them after I got a CPAP machine).  Treating it with the machine stopped it from happening.

There are various causes, but dry mouth like from stim use and involuntary grinding/mouth movements might be the problem for you.

Also rinsing with warm sea salt water helped.

my son was plagued with mouth sores and after some blood work and an endoscopy he was dx'd with Celiac disease-which  meant he had to maintain a gluten free diet-no more mouth sores.

Ck for gluten sensitivity if you suffer this symptom!!

Sorry didn't mean to suggest ambesol...I didn't know it was bad for mouth/tongue/canker sores...

Don't feel bad!  The advice I gave above is what I give to my patients in the office and is based on the best knowledge we have of how to treat oral diseases.

However, if I had a huge canker sore that I kept chomping on with my teeth and all I had was Ambesol, I would ignore all my dental hygiene/ dental assistant training and bathe that painful fucker in it!  I know it delays healing, but sometimes you just need to get relief!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that.  You could get a cheap one for now, and save up to get a nicer one.  They make all kinds of e-cigs that are variably priced.

Or maybe they're all more expensive in Australia.  I'm not sure.  If that's the case, that's fucking stupid IMO.

I won't derail your thread anymore.  I was just curious b/c you said you were still smoking.

I hope your soars heal quickly.  Definitely rinse with salt water.  Lolleedee gave some great advice too.  When I had all those fillings done right out of college, they gave me some kind of mouth rinse.  It was for bacterial infections and inflammation I think.  I don't remember the name, but it was really great stuff.

But since I think soars are caused by a virus, that specific rinse probably wouldn't help.  The rinse Lolleedee talked about sounds like it would help though.  Maybe you could go to a dentist and ask about it?  If you can't afford the dentist, then definitely get some Orajel.

Personally I don't think the stuff helps that long.  If you have a lot of saliva, it dilutes the Orajel and lessens the effects.  But still, it's better than nothing.  I'm sure any relief for you would be appreciated.

I used to suffer from ulcers on my inner cheeks when I was a child from around 4 to 9 years old. After 9 they just went away. It was horrible when I had them, I used to have multiple sores, sometimes 3 or 4 at one time and eating was very painful. I would try to get them to heal faster by stupidly scraping off the white/off white layer and applying oragel.

Since then, I might have had maybe 3 random ones.
IIRC I remember reading an article that explained that I might have a hereditary disorder that affects children but subsides at adolescence.

With love,

I have no suggestions for the cause aside from checking your intake, but for the pain you might try clove oil; awesome for all kinds of oral pain from canker sores to toof problems.

'luck!

I'd rather chew some coca leaves or rub pure Cocaine on it but cloves are a thought.

it's finally on the mend but at one point I developed a subtle fucking lisp.

seems to happen when I lose sleep (checks intake)

I have had them since I was a kid.  They eventually went away for a long time and have resurfaced over the past five years or so there have been several remedies that Have worked for me one being lysine which is an amino acid and the other was a switch to Sensodyne Tartar control toothpaste. Sometimes the body response to certain bacteria in the mouth. Another weird situation was every time I drink any kind of craft beer that was a Stout or Porter I would get an outbreak of the ulcers in my mouth.

Rinsing with warm salt-water always makes me think it's doing some good and it seems to feel better and heal faster afterwards.  Just anecdotal evidence though.

^Also garlic, if you can tolerate it. It is super for oral infections. Might want to start with clove oil only, if you can't tolerate raw garlic.

Won't do much for your love life, but it may help.

Chipper, maybe switch to a toothpaste that doesn't have Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) in it. That's the stuff that makes it foamy, but it's also a known irritant...ever notice if you leave toothpaste in the corner of your mouth or on your face it gets a bit red and puffy?

Try switching for a month or so and keep using what's been working. Swishing with Coconut oil is a good move too. :)
