Title: Is this an abscess or what?
Post by: Chip on September 06, 2016, 11:24:51 PM
What is this thing? It still hurts and I have a few days of a/b's to run but do I need to see a doctor ?

Freaking out a bit because it's too painful to wear shoes and it's got fluid in it.

Fuck this, I'm off to see my GP and while I'm there I will ask for a sedative because I'm not sleeping well at all and am plagued with grief attacks due to my dad'said imminent death.

Sorry about your father, Chipper. I'm sure that is really hard to deal with. Good of you to respect his wishes and be there for him as much and any way you can. About all you can do. Again, sorry. That's heartbreaking.

Hell yes that's an abcess. Good call seeing a doc.

It's very nice of you to say that and to be understood.

I have never grieved like this before but I'll get through it, bloody abscess and all. Dizzle said it was going to happen to at least one foot.

Yeah, I'm keen to see if I can get some respite through medication, it's what we do, right ?

I hope that you've gone to see your doctor. It's concerning that even after the IV antibiotics they gave you and the few days of oral antibiotics you've been on, you're still having so much pain and it still looks so red and inflamed. It may need to be lanced and drained. Doesn't hurt much (imo) and the relief is almost instantaneous, once that pressure is gone. How does the other foot look? Better than that one?
Also, sorry about your dad. That's a hard thing to go through. Hope you & your family find some peace and comfort. ❤️

Thank you DH. The other foot just has a pool of Methadone in it only, something I know well.

It's a painful bugger. Yeah, I was hoping it would get lanced so I'm in the right place.

I'm still determined to never inject again.

Yeah, I really can't imagine losing a parent, no matter the circumstances. It'll likely happen, but I doubt too many are ever "ready" for it. Just not something one can easily (or at all?) prepare themselves for. You're right, you will get through it, but damn. It's got to be hard. I hope it's as peaceful of a process as possible for your dad.

What'd the doc say about your foot? I've seen a few abcesses that look about like that. Pretty bad. Fortunately (*knocks on wood), I have never had anything that bad. You eat garlic? It has a lot of antibacterial/antiviral properties. For it to be effective, it helps to eat quite a bit. I gues what I mean is not just a single clove sautéed up with a meal. More like a bulb or two with a meal. It's quite strong topically, too, although I can't see what good it would do to kill the top few layers of skin. I'd try and eat as much garlic as you can for a week or two, on top of whatever the doc gives you. It won't bring you back from the dead, so it helps to start a garlic regiment before things get quite so angry looking. Of course it is "just" a food, but I think it would help prevent a possible MRSA infection as well.  Hurts to wear shoes, eh? And fluid? I'm not trying to make light of your situation (at all), but you've got to video that sucker if the doc drains it.

@Catsfordrugs I swear I've had a few accesses that I "operated" on that should've been in a video of nastiest shit ever. One of the first times I ever treated one myself at home comes to mind. It was on my calf & it hurt like hell to walk. I decided to drain it, and my ex at the time was fascinated by the idea. He was right up close watching & boy did he get a nasty surprise! I made a small cut with a scalpel, and put a little pressure on the sides of it, but nothing was happening. So, he says "push down harder on it". I did. It was like a fucking projectile of I don't even know what. And it shot out of the hole I'd made and hit him square in his face. So fucking gross, but the look on his face was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I wish I had a picture of that. Especially now since he turned out to a piece of shit rat.

Now lanced and feeling better.

Got a few 5 mg of Diaz. so that's going to help with sleep and feel better all over.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

@Dopeless Hopefiend-that's awesome and totally nasty! Hit in the face by abcess juice! Yuck. Did it smell bad, too? I've heard that asside from the hideous visuals the smell can be pretty bad, too. Maybe chipper will video his. Your ex old man (old lady, etc..hate to presume.) rolled on you? In a way you got in trouble for? That is fucked up. That would be totally deserving of abcess juice in the face. Lame. That sounds like a good story.

I'll bet the calf was a shitty place to have one. Almost as bad as the top of the foot. I've only ever had them on a butt cheek. Maybe a few "starters" on a deltoid, but all mainly from IM. Never (again with the superstitious knocking on wood) from iv.

No video, Chipper?!

No video, just the poking of a 23 G. needle into it a few times and some squeezing.

The irony of it being "fixed" with a needle, the same thing that got me into this mess to start with, was not lost on me.

It did hurt as there is also pooled Methadone in there too so it's adding additional pressure.

Why do we do this to ourselves and not learn ? I'm lots dumber than I thought I was.

You'd have to be nuts to be a junkie if you knew the whole story.

You went to a doctor right man?
Title: Re: Is this an abscess or what?

I did. I didn't want to poke it myself as I had no antiseptic and bandages.

The fluid was far more bloody than expected and it's a free service so why not, right ?

It should now start the healing process - the thought of being able to wear shoes never sounded better.

I think I know what caused it - some Methadone given to me had bacteria growing in it and I forgot to leave that particular bottle purely for oral consumption, judgement clouded by benzos.

I shot over 25 ml. of the oral prep but some of it was old and even given to me so it was tainted to start with.

I broke the rules and foolishly even forgot to swab.

I know where I fucked up but I had too much Etizolam and Xanax in me to think straight, made mistakes and paid the price.

Throw in poor circulation and injecting down there was my downfall.

Oh Chipper, I am so sorry I didn't see this sooner.
Best to let a doctor lance it. Doing it yourself can lead to more problems for many who try.
Sure there are some successful lancing done at home, but when done by a doctor, your chances of further infection are greatly reduced.

I am glad you are feeling better.

I am so very sorry about your dad. I never felt my age more than when I had to start facing the loss of my parents.
Please take good care of those feet. Still on the same course of antibiotics?

oh yes, i find myself constantly drawn to thinking about my own mortality.

dad is very fortunate, his family will be with him all the way and he is in a nice place and very comfortable. what more could one ask for ?

i have another 3 days of my 10 course of antibiotics to go.

thanks for thinking of us.

my feet will recover well and the decision to drop the needle is something that i'm welcoming, enough is enough.

@Catsfordrugs,  yeah you could definitely say he rolled on me for something that I got in trouble for. Got me 3 years in the feds. Not only him, but his mother did as well. It was a long time ago, he was a real piece of shit & in the long run 3 years in prison was probably much less trouble than 3 more years with him would've been.
