Men Only Thread +plus a POLL for a Men's Only Board

My grandfather opened a barber shop in the 1960s or 70s, which he ran until retirement (sometime in the 90s).  I was quite young when he retired and sold the shop, but I remember spinning on the chairs as a kid.  He's currently 84 or 85 and I believe he uses a straight razor to this day.  I never inquired, but I've not seen so much as a stray whisker on the man's face.  He never even sports any stubble!  My mother has some old photos of him sporting a beard, so I know he can grow one.

For the record, I suspect I can grow a decent beard too-- I've just not tried.  For those of you who doubt your beard growing abilities, I hear that the thin spots fill in more than you'd think.  As the hairs grow, they take up space; a few mm's of length times how many follicles one has is often enough to cover up those sparse areas.  It really doesn't have to be long at all.  The only problem is the awkward growing phase!

it is most definitely a sticky subject
but i think in terms of fairness
i too would like a place where i could ask questions about mens health
and get responses from specifically men
im a pretty shameless person but there have been times i wished this was an option

Gender locked boards are divisive by their nature
  The women's only board is also divisive, but women seem to feel uncomfortable talking about some things around men.

Fair enough I guess.  The same could be said for men wanting to be seen in a certain light by women.  There are things you just don't want to talk about when not around people who understand you.

I just don't see how a men's only board would be divisive, and a women's only board isn't. Maybe I  am missing something in my male privilege.  It wouldn't be the first time, but if someone can explain it then I am happy to listen.

Could the boards be made read only, and require a password to post?  I think the big issue is people feeling excluded.

I don't see what the problem with gender-specific boards.  Most people know (or should know) that women sometimes prefer to speak only to women about certain issues.  The same with men IMO.  Things that are extremely personal and specific to only that gender. 

I don't think this will result in misogyny or division among members.  Even if it did, the admins / Founders could put a stop to it.  They will inevitably be monitoring the posts in these threads / sub-forums. 

Concerning the women's-only thread / sub-forum: things may have recently changed, but I didn't notice much action on there when I was an admin.  I never posted there, but I occasionally looked in to make sure nothing was amiss.  I only ever saw a few threads, and only a few posts.  I got the impression that a lot of the female members weren't using it.  As I said though, things may have changed the past few weeks. 

I can't see the men's-only thread / sub-forum getting a lot of action either.  Maybe more than the women's thread / sub-forum in the beginning.  But I think it will eventually die down. 

Speaking personally for myself only, I'm not entirely sure I'd feel comfortable posting certain things in the men's-only thread / sub-forum.  I've never felt comfortable talking with only men.  I grew up around women, and have always felt more comfortable talking to women.  If anything, I'd rather ask for advice from women than men.  And some things I wouldn't feel comfortable asking / posting about on here at all, from either men or women. 

That does go against the purpose of this board.  Ideally people should feel comfortable posting anything on here without fear of judgement or retributions.  Unfortunately I think it's a little too soon for everyone to feel that way though.  The taint from Opiophile, and how things were there, is still too strong IMO. 

People might assume that by posting highly personal subjects on here that they'd be judged or ridiculed like they were over there at times.  Hopefully that sense of vulnerability will decrease over time.
