Title: Who is your favourite DJ or electronic artist?
Post by: AllNightLong on October 21, 2015, 07:24:28 AM
I love electronic music and prefer to listen to it over just about anything other than reggae.  So who are the electronic artists that you love to listen to?  There are so many different variations of electronica and the ones I prefer mostly have heavy bass lines, but I do appreciate house and even dance music.  I will list some of the artists that I prefer so maybe some of you will check them out.  Feel free to do the same as I am always looking for new shit to listen to.

Here's who I listen to pretty frequently:

Daft Punk (probably my overall #1 tbh)
The Glitch Mob (they have a very unique sound that no one else really has)
Justice
Wolfgang Gardner
DJ Fresh
Avicii
Calvin Harris
Nostalgia (lots of 8-bit sounds here)
Zomboy (very very heavy bass)
Datsik
Flux Pavilion
Excision
Cookiemonsta
Trolley Snatcha
Bassnectar
Pegboard Nerds

There are quite a few more but these are the top of my list.  If you have anyone that I may like based off of what I listed here please let me know.

I have to admit that I don't really keep up with or listen to this genre a lot but a lot of my friends do and I enjoy it at party's so I kinda have some reference. They took me to music week in Miami this last March and though I didn't go to Ultra, we did go to a lot of shows in clubs that week and my favorite was Josh Wink when I saw him at "Do not sit on the furniture" club. He killed it and I found myself having the most fun and dancing the most at that show.

I know quite a few Sydney based underground gay dance DJs and aggressively pursued their friendships.

some of the sets they deliver have been sensational ... tech and progressive House is the genre of choice.

I'm a huge fan of my local DJs and far prefer them over the well known, more commercial names.

in my book they can't be beaten.

I figured you'd chime in on this one.  It sucks that I live in North Carolina and there are pretty much 0 local DJ's here so I only have big name people to listen to.  I do enjoy progressive house though so we have that in common.

I listen to a fair amount of drum and bass. I need lots of melody in my music, so I tend to like the more liquid stuff. London Elektricity is releasing a new album now. The first two singles have been kind of meh. I hope the rest of it's better.

Does Black Dahlia Murder count? In all seriousness, I listen a shit load of different music. I really don't like EDM all that much but I do enjoy underground hip hop. The closest thing to an electronic artist that I'll jam is DJ Shadow.

Omega Drive  I'm Your Slave

New Order - Fine Time

Peter Lazonby - Wave Speech (Junior's Dub)

Sven Vath - An Accident in Paradise

... and the single track that introduced me the genre back in '89 - Psychick TV - Joy-

Hope this trip through the historic annals of electronic music has benefited you, friend. I picked out track with heavy basslines to please you.

Grew up on Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Autechre. But I love all or most Electronic music or EDM as the kids call it these days. I also like Electro usually of the Detroit flavor, Drum and Bass/Darkstep, Vaporwave, Freestyle Music and I consider early Hip Hop even todays Hip Hop to be Electronic as well. I dig Miami Bass and Ghetto Tech too. Some noise and most Ambient. Fuck I even like Trance and Happy Hardcore.

But my favorite is Burial, followed by Aphex Twin I guess also love Drexciya, Arpanet, Dopplereffekt ect.

A LITTLE off-topic, but here's an interview with LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy "How to Deal With Failure"

LCD Soundsystem disbanded in 2011. They released "Christmas Wil Break Your Heart" a couple weeks ago and will be playing Coachella and other festivals this year.
Their first single, "Losing My Edge"

From their last show at Madison Square Garden:

Nice man, we have pretty similar tastes in dance music. What do you think of the new London Elektricity album? I am a little disappointed to be honest. I've given it a couple of listens and none of the songs have grabbed me really. I'm kinda bummed about that.

@EMC ditto, dissapointing. I've been traveling (work) so I'll give it another try once I get back home but we are
Not alone, nobody I know is bumping it.

I used to listen to a ton of electronica when I was in college. Not so much now. Just very occasionally.

Back then my favorite genres were Trance, Hard House, and some Ambient.

Some artists I liked were Orbital, Sasha and John Digweed, DJ Micro, DJ Irene, Underworld, Paul Oakenfold, Sash, and The Orb, among others.

Nowadays I don't listen to music much. Mainly only while driving. It's a shame bc I used to listen to my iPod for 2-3 hours each day. I'd also listen to my music on iTunes while online. Music is just one more interest that's fallen by the wayside over the years. It seems boring now for the most part.

If I do listen to music now, it's usually Alternative.

At one point or another, I liked Rock, 80's (especially new wave), 90's Alternative, some Hip Hop, Classical, Gregorian Chant, Industrial, 70's Rock, and Disco, among others. Pretty much everything except Country, Bluegrass, Jazz, and hardcore Rap.

As for Happy Hardcore, I HATE that shit with a passion. It is the most annoying genre of music that I know. KandE kids tricked out in bright, garish colors; bopping around, high on E, stimulants, and sugar; blowing people up; hugging each other; and peddling candy and PLUR like it's going out of style. So. So. So. Annoying.
