Title: Management of Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal
Post by: candy on July 15, 2015, 01:16:23 PM
Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome are different signs a baby will present with at birth if exposed to opiates/opioids during pregnancy.
If you or someone you know is currently pregnant and is addicted to opiates or other drugs of abuse, I will leave a link with information.

If you are currently pregnant and using, please try and get good prenatal care if you can. You can buy prenatal vitamins at any retail drug store and they should be started as soon as you find out you are pregnant.
The cycle of constant using and withdrawal can have some terrible effects on the fetus you are carrying.Methadone treatment is the accepted treatment for pregnant women and it is best for baby that Mom is on a stable dose and not that cycle of using and withdrawal. Buprenorphine also should be considered.
Withdrawal can lead to loss of oxygen to the fetus, fetal distress, and loss of fetus.

Getting good care is essential for a good outcome for both baby and mom.
If you are pregnant, regular check ups are important for both the health of the baby and mom.

Here is a good link on information for pregnant women who need substance abuse treatment.
