Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndromeWiki

This happened to a friend of mine - here is an excerpt of the article on Wiki:

Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS) is recurrent nausea, vomiting, and cramping abdominal pain due to cannabis use.[4] These symptoms may improve temporarily by taking a hot shower or bath. Complications may include kidney failure, electrolyte problems, and skin burns from hot water. At least two deaths have been associated with CHS.

Weekly cannabis use is generally required for the syndrome to occur. The underlying mechanism is unclear, with several possibilities proposed. Diagnosis is based on the symptoms. The condition is typically present for some time before the diagnosis is made. Another condition that may present similarly is cyclic vomiting syndrome.

Definitive treatment involves stopping use of cannabis. Up to two weeks may be required to see a benefit. Treatments during an episode of vomiting is generally supportive in nature. There is tentative evidence for the use of capsaicin cream on the abdomen during an acute episode.

Of those who went to the emergency department (ED) with recurrent vomiting in one institution in the United States from 2005 to 2010, about 6% had the condition. The rate of ED visits in over 950 emergency departments for "vomiting with cannabis use disorder" from 2006 compared to 2013 increased from 2.3 to 13.3 per 100,000 ED visits.[8] With 130 million ED visits a year that 13.3 rate produces 17,290 CHS ED visits per year. The syndrome was first described in 2004, and simplified diagnostic criteria published in 2009.

There can be an overdose syndrome when using any medication. You should always watch the amount of cannabis you use, because it can be dangerous to your health.
