Impact of Drug Policy on Women
« on: July 14, 2015, 07:46:04 AM »
Here is a great read on how the drug policies that are in place have affected women who are dealing with substance abuse.

As women, we face different challenges than that of men and we must help to advocate for change.
My hope is that we can offer a place for women to discuss their unique needs as an addict and as a woman.

What do we need as women; compassion, knowledge, freedom from violence, support, and healthy ways to impart change.

Make your voice heard here and post your experiences with addiction.
How has it affected your life and what changes have you made?

This is just a start and I invite anyone to post and share. This is your site and we want you to help us advocate for Harm Reduction. Everyone counts!

Riddick,
I understand as humans we all need these things; compassion, knowledge, freedom from violence, support, and healthy ways to impart change.
It was not meant in anyway to place the needs of women above men.
I decided to add a place on this forum for women so we could discuss the specific challenges that women face when dealing with addiction/mental illness.
Many women face different obstacles when it comes to addiction than men do and I want the women here to be able to discuss that and not feel they are being judged or ridiculed in anyway.
Domestic violence, pregnancy, children, unhealthy relationships, sex workers, many different areas that are specific to the needs of women.
You are welcome to post if you like, but I ask that you please be respectful.

I would never imply that men are not worthy of the same as women. If I upset you, for that I am sorry, but as a woman myself I wanted to make sure that the women here had a place to share with other women. That's it!

Sorry if I am repeating myself or if I have pissed you off, but it has been a very stressful week for me. I just buried my dad on Thursday and I am struggling to find the right words right now.

I am glad to see you are interested in the many factors of addiction and mental illness that can affect women.
We are often overlooked or treated differently when it comes to these problems and I want to make sure they are addressed.
I still have a lot of work to do on this part of the forum. I want to make sure my sisters have a place where they can get information, resources, and support.

It was something I wanted to see on opiophile, but it never happened.
It will here!
