Lithium
« on: August 19, 2016, 06:03:12 PM »
Since this is the Anti-Psychotics category and we don't yet have a Lithium thread I'll fall on that sword and make one ;)

I wen't my Psychiatrist the other day and she changed my meds too:
1200mg Gabapentin 3x per day
1000mg ER Depakote 2x per day
1mg Alprazolam 3x per day
20mg Inderal as needed

And now Lithium 300mg 2x per day

Now i'm happy with everything I was on before. I have noticed a progression in improvement from each thing vs when i'm off something. If I was really going to loose something it might be the depakote but I like it now and that isn't the point of this thread.

So! Lithium! Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences? Horror

I usually don't just right into a new med (unless I'm researching) so i'm still holding off yet.

I'm jealous of that GABA script. I just got mine upped last week, picking up all the bottles for the script was almost comical. Got 2 sealed bottles of#100 300mg pills, then another little orange bottle for the remaining 40.

Random question. How long before you notice a withdrawal from the GABA?

As for the topic! I was briefly scripted lithium when I was detoxing like 4 years ago. From what they told me its one of the oldest medicines around for mood swing/bi-polar. Never got a high enough dose to notice much difference. However I was a mess at the time with mania and panic attacks from w/d.

I'll make you more jealous; my disabled father (who doesn't take nearly as much as I do) gets the same script so in the household we're getting 180 a month and an extra 540 every 90 days. So ya. I love Gabapentin.

As for Withdrawals, almost immediate. Day one is usually ok but I always figure there is usually so much in me that the half lifes are keeping some in my system but by day 2 I'm a wreck.

And fair warning, Gaba w/d's are worse and more incapacitating then any w/d I've known. Benzo's and Heroin included.

Good ol lithium sulphate!
I've been on it for years. A rather small dose of 600mg a day. I take it for mood disorders and after a few months of taking it,i did notice a change in my behavior. Give it an honest try and let it build up in your body. I have never got bad side effects from it. The only down play is the blood work your gonna need to give on a semi regular basis.
Hope it works out for ya. If not give it the boot!

It's like a world were you don't fit.
A life you can't live.
Somewhere you can see the food,
But can't touch the silverware.

That's my plan as long as I'm sure I wont have any interactions with any existing meds. I was dosed the same as well, 300mg 2x per day. I don't mind the blood work, I do it for the the Depakote, as long as they don't blow the good vein to draw from and listen to me when I tell them how to hit it.

Lithium. No offense or judgement to anyone here but that reminds me of something:

An ex-girlfriend of mine was on lithium and other psysch meds. She was smart and beautiful and rich had a dual degree in MFA and Lit  but she was bat-shit crazy too.

I don't know what role the litium played in keeping her (somewhat sane) but she wasn't stable. I was studying in Guadalajara and invited her to come down with me. She was about 5'2" blonde hair, blue eyes and prone to wearing short skirts. One night we went out to dinner in downtown Guadalajara and she got into one of her "You don't really love me " fits and walked out of the restaurant, not speaking a word of Spanish or even knowing our address to get a cab home. Just about one of the stupidest things a hot blonde can do in a Mexican city.

I paid the bill and flagged a cab and went looking for her, which is no doubt what she wanted me to do. When I found her she was carrying a brick and told me some guys had been following her and she picked up the brick to defend herself. I sent her back to the US the next day and when her father found out he was going to kill me for "letting" her do that. Later, I found out he was nuts too. I guess it ran in the family.

Well, she wasn't dull anyway. But if I ever meet another girl who takes the psych drugs she was taking I think I will take a pass.

Jega I love you bro but we gotta differentiate between GABA and Gabapentin. I know you know they're not the same thing, but when you abbreviate gp as GABA, it confuses people; and these are two important drugs with significantly different profiles.

thanks for that tidbit, I always assumed people were talking about the same thing whether they said gaba or gabapentin.  (never messed with or looked into either of 'em)

Don't know much about lithium just know that last year in jail they overdosed a guy in one of the cells in my pod and almost killed him, left him in his cell puking screaming for help unable to get up or eat for almost 3 days before he had to be mediflighted 3 hours to a hospital that saved his life and said an hour later he would of been a goner. The whole 3 days the inmates were banging on the glass trying to get the guards to help him and the nurse was a dumb bitch who was saying he was fine. Finally the youngest guard there who still had a heart saw him and told them they need to take him to the hospital and check him out, since he hadn't moved in 3 days and had 3 days of puke and shit all over himself.
