Ain't Karma a Bitch!?
« on: January 28, 2016, 05:27:10 PM »
After all the horror stories we've read and shared here, I thought this one woud bring some smiles through schadenfreude.  It seems like the former head of M.A.D.D. just got herself a DUI. Then again, she is from Florida.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/former-madd-president-arrested-for-dui/

While on the subject, here's the results of a google search for "M.A.D.D. + DUI" appraently it isn't thta uncommon. When I think of all the poor victims of their oversealous demonization of people making the mistake of believing they are sober or OK, or on prescrptions or simple on OTC meds only to end up in jail I hope these MADD hypocrites get NO MERCY.

It seems like a lot of time, those people who scream the loudest about some issue, are themselves involved in it--like pedophiles, anti-drugist, etc.....

I guess there are Save the Whales people who don't go hunting whales, but might be in a boat that runs them over by accident.

LMAO!!!

I hate M.A.D.D. and Nancy Reagan. They're both overzealous thundercunts.

In my past rehabs there have been older people there who'd tell stories about how DUIs weren't stigmatized or criminalized nearly as much as they are now.

They'd say things like you just got a less serious ticket. How the cops would make sure you got home safely. How cops in general were more helpful and willing to do good things for people, whereas now they're all about criminalizing people and jamming them up.

I can't say we've progressed. If anything we've regressed. I blame M.A.D.D. and Nancy Reagan for a large part of that.

The last time I was ever stopped for suspicion of DUI was in 2010. I had been on a date and was coming home from a gay club at like 3 AM. I was drunk earlier in the evening, as well as taking 4mg Subs insuffilated, 4mg Klonopin from my script back then, and a 54mg Concerta that my date gave me. I had taken the Concerta about a half hour before I left to go home so there was no pill to find, and the Subs and Klonopin were in their script bottles.

Well I got pulled over by a state trooper on I-275 for speeding a little bit. I was really worried that I was gonna get a DUI. If I had, that would have been my third in the past ten years up to that point. I had completely forgot that the Subs and K-pins were in my pocket.

The officer pulls up. Usual roll down your window, license and registration, have you been drinking tonight sir? I had two drinks earlier officer. (I actually had a lot more, but I wasn't going to tell him that).

I passed the sobriety roadside test. I passed the other shit he tested me on. I blew a .05. Just when I thought I was good he frisked me. As I said, I had forgotten about the pills in my pocket. When he found them you could tell he perked up, like he was thinking finally, something I can bust him on! Um, nope. My scripts were in their original bottles.

So he had to let me go. It's funny though because a few months later I was going to an appointment and I always turn on this side road. Some state trooper was following me from about five miles before I turned on that side street until I actually turned on it.

There's a gas station there on the corner, and I needed gas anyway. I wasn't going to go to that particular gas station, but I thought what the hell. I thought if I stopped he'd stop following me. Well he pulled in and parked in one of the parking spaces near the front of the store.

I just went in to pay the cash for the gas, got the gas, went back in to get the change because it didn't take the full amount. I think the state trooper who followed me was the same one who stopped me.

I think he was watching me walk into and out of the store to gauge my sobriety. He obviously knew I took pills. Probably pegged me as cops usually do: druggie scum.

All in all I think I got lucky, especially with the DUI stop.

You're exactly right morfy, an oklahoma police chief and his wife just got arrested yesterday for weed. I don't think anyone should goto jail over weed but I am completely okay with a person who has victimized, robbed, and caged people for doing the same thing him and his wife do to get totally destroyed by our judicial system. Even though that probably won't. I am surprised they were even arrested for it since they will usually do whatever it takes to protect their own.

I-275 no shit?
DAILY do I see every person in every car driving worse than fucked ul
LOOKING AT THEIR PHONES

The troopers on 275 dont play around
too many serious accidents and wrong way drivers

That being said I look like the definition of druggy scum
and definitely dont have any prescription bottles with my name on it

You can still get a DUI at .05 here in FL
If not a reckless driving charge (which gives them PC for a search)
my friend got his at .06
And he didnt have anything but pot in his system in addition to alcohol

I also found this weird they let you go nark Ohio is as far as I know a zero tolerance state.  There really is no legal limit so if you have ANY alcohol in your system they can and usually do still charge an ovi.  When I got my ovi in my drivers class there were quite a few people at .02-.05 back.

That being said I look like the definition of druggy scum

First off, DeadCat love the post. You made me smile without the need of mind altering substances. Not the easiest thing to do, so well done good sir.

That sounds like the cops are running a money making racket with the local courts. I wonder how much of the budget is paid with fines enforced from law enforcement...

It happened between the Beechmont and Five Mile Rd. exits.

As unfair and horrible as it is, I think appearances and perceptions played a part in his decision to let me go. See, I don't look or dress like a typical drug addict. I have a clean cut look, and I dress somewhat preppy. Think J. Crew style (although I certainly can't afford J. Crew anymore). Plus I had been on a date, so I was en pointe.

And I'm not trying to be judgemental or disparaging toward you or other people who do look like drug addicts. In some ways I like certain aspects of that style. But it doesn't suit my personality or personal style. I don't look good that way, or feel comfortable dressing like that.

Back then I was also still driving my Mercedes E320. It was an older model, but still looked really good, despite being mechanically deficient from time to time. So he might have thought I was some upper-middle class guy who didn't deserve to be brought in. Or, more likely, he might have thought I'd hire a good lawyer who'd beat this charge and make the trooper look like a fool. I dunno.

I'm obviously not an upper-middle class guy. I'm not wealthy by any means. But I am usually able to pass for such if need be. Kinda like how biracial people would sometimes try to pass for white in the south. LOL. And it IS unfair and wrong that people / places judge others based on their appearance. But unfortunately the world is a very judgmental place, and unfortunately appearances and perceptions do count.

Other than that, I think it had a lot to do with luck.

My first car was a 1998 Mercedes E Class. It was 9k which 7 of was my own money. I saved those home depot checks like a fiend for months saving up for that car. Just wanted to say I relate... I still love that car... whichever junk yard it's in I still love it. Baby took 2 bullets for me.

On duis bein more stigmatized now then in the past, I agree.

I have heard countless stories from my dads younger days. He has no duis. One being young in a college campus with a car with too many people drunk as hell mooning people out the car.

It's way more stigmatized now than it was, I vividly remember my father bringing "travelers" with him often on trips (scotch, rocks) maybe even post 1980. He wouldn't get sloshed, he just wanted to keep drinking, cos that's what they did back then. If anyone was drunk they generally didn't drive that I remember.

Of course, those were the days when you could be pregnant with a pall-mall hanging out yo mouf in a car with no seat belts doing 90 when it was only 20 over and on tires I wouldn't trust today on a fukin' lawn-mower.

Remind me again who the victim is when someone drives over some government imposed limit and the driver made it home without hitting anything. Right. There wasn't one.

We've got enough laws and tort remedies to deal with the outcome of crashes by those driving impaired. Let those be the only penalties  on the books.

DUI itself is nothing more than behavior control, just like speeding laws.
